I was so nervous but it went fantastic.
Especially as my moms a hairdresser so I actually haven't been in a salon since 2000, maybe even 1999.
I asked for around half an inch off (about 1.5cm) and that is what I got!
It turned out great and my hair has never looked this 'alive'!!
My family was completely shocked! Probably as it is all hanging at one length (at least for the moment! I'm sure it will go back to its individual lock curliness soon enough!)
The main thing however is that I didn't end up with inches off, or a 'layered/styled cut', or a fringe etc.!
What a relief, and get this, my family/mom was so excited to see the 'new me' (a huge thing for me as it has essentially been-with the exception of the 6 months where I had short hair again-5 years of mainly criticism and negativity) that they even took lots of pictures of me. I can't remember the last time that ever happened (i.e exclusively of me!).
Hopefully I'll be posting some of those pictures relatively soon.
Coupled with the fact that I ran my first marathon yesterday (the 14km City 2 Surf) I am a very happy camper right now!
Thanks everyone
(and by the way I'm glad you all like our new logo :-)
Robert you wrote before:
"Glad the trim went well. This has always been my experience.
And congratulations on doing your first marathon! How are you feeling a day after that? I was a licensed massage therapist for a number of years, and several of my regular clients, male and female, were marathon runners. We always scheduled a massage for them a few days after a marathon to begin "repairing" the damage. But, what great training this is. How long have you bee preparing?"
My reply:
I'm feeling pretty good. Actually I'm more into the weight training/bodybuilding aspect of fitness, but over the last 6 months or so I've made a conscious decision to become more balanced and so I've included a lot more cardio into my life. Getting an MP3 player has really helped in this regard while I'm on the gym cardio equipment, while I have been finally taking advanatge of Bondi beach and surrounding beaches which are literally 3 minutes away by car, by going for runs on the beach and between the beaches on the designated paths.
The City 2 Surf is one of the worlds greatest community marathons (about 65,000 ran this year-mainly those having a bit of fun but there are divisions for the elite and competitive runners too).
It is also considered to be the worlds most grueling fun run (it's 14km).
The point is that evry year since 1995 or so I've watched the race on TV and twice in person and EACH time thought 'Man, I'm gonna do it next year, but it looks so hard!'.
In actuality though with a couple months of solid training the race was a breeze and a real pleasure too, Sydney has never looked so good and the people never friendlier. Truly a highlight of my life and I'm gonna do it every year although not run it every year as the atmosphere needs to be experienced fully and walking it would be another way to do that.
As for your massage therapy practice, I had no idea! You truly have done a lot of interesting things in your life Robert. Very inspiring.
And finally enough as I'll be working as a Personal Trainer from next year on, I have also considered learning massage therapy as well.
So great to hear, hope I haven't rambled on and bored you too much.
Onward and upward!
Absolutely. This attitude keeps me willing to try things--keeps life interesting. Massage therapy would be a nice combo with the Trainer certification. The more you know about the body, yours and hyour client's the better you are able to work with them. And, to really work with a client, you must be clear that you can only take a client to places that you've been, so to speak.
Best of luck with it all!
Robert
Hey Dean
I am so glad that all went so well for you and am sure it looks sensational! A Happy Camper for sure. :-) Being a well established Longhair yourself, there DOES come times when something can/should be done. And really, at your stage what's 1/2 inch? Only a mere month away from back to where you were and your hair looks much more "alive now." (As if it didn't look super before...........long hair to die for!)
As you know, I am probably known around here as the "Don't get a Trim guy." (But of course this is for those that are in process of growing their hair out with some of them getting trims and then wondering why their hair isn't growing.)
Okay, that does it Mr. Atlas!!!!!!!!!!! And, it's ALL your fault! Now I'm jealous cause I want to be a "Happy Camper" also. :-)
Next month will be the 4 year mark for myself and I am now to a point where snags and tangles are just building-up a little too much. I will go to the same Salon as I did 2 something years ago and have "Split Ends" targeted as well as some of the ends that are especially thin. It sure will be nice to be rid of these and I know from before that all looks better and it is sheer heaven to just glide through the hair without interuptions. (And, I ONLY "Finger-comb.")
Thank you Dean for doing me this favor as knowing myself, had I not read what you have just written, I would have probably stalled until Nov.
All the best -
Justin~
