Last time i grew my hair out from august 2004 April 2005 most of my hair had reached 4 inches long with a few of the hairs reaching past the 4 inches mark. Well i cut my hair and i am growing it out from the same length as the first time round. Except this time only a few of the hairs have reach the 4 inches mark whole most of them still have half an inch to go. Also there is a much bigger variation in the individual lengths of hairs at the tip this time around then there was as the first time. This makes the ends of my hair look raggedy and thin and casues more flips even though i have no split ends.
Does anyone know what could of caused this change in growth speed?
Hi Rellow, the most likely reason you see more shedding on your second growth experiment is because it was done at a different time of year. On your second round you likely had more months when you were actively shedding, or more months when your hair was dormant, or both.
To make it a fair comparison, you would need to repeat the experiment using the SAME 8 months of the year on two separate occasions. Another thing that increases shedding is high temperatures. On your second round did you have more hot days (30 to 40* C) than on your first one?
Hopefully this has been helpful.

I definitely had a lot more hot days. The first time round i started at the end of summer and did most of the growing through winter. This time round i started off in mid winter and did most of the growing in spring and summer so its definitely been hotter.
Thanks for your advice.
