I love the new logo at the top of this board.
So don't I! :-) But, Who is the guy in the Logo?
Answer:
The guy you see is NOT a 'specific person;' (The artist was told ahead of time about this.) He is therefore NO MAN in particular, so he represents ''ALL'' men who hope and dream of becoming Longhairs (or who already are!). The image is that of an ''average'' age...a combination of both the younger AND of the older members of the Hyperboard. He is somewhere right in the middle.
Hmm... the artist... perhaps the infamous Luckskind? Speaking of, haven't seen him here in a long while... I'd be curious to see his progress now!
Good Logo.

First and foremost, a lot of appreciation for Luckskind and his creative work.
Hope I'm not being nitpicking - but would it be a relevant idea to include two faces, one of then African-looking face with a huge afro? Would that be important for the participants and lurkers with African roots? Well, many but not all of us have European roots, and the "logo guy" clearly seems to have European roots, too - just wondering...

And we could add Asians, American Indians, India Indians, and African-Americans who are from Egypt and really look kind of like Arabs.
A few years ago I landed a web job at an anti-defamation group called "GLAAD". I found myself seated next to their director of "diversity". He had a web page that alternatively flashed about half a dozen faces on it. All were under age 30, and none had long hair. I told him that, as an older longhaired man, I didn't find his page particularly welcoming. He went off in a huff. Then the next day a worker there told me, "You are the wrong gender to be macho at GLAAD." All I needed to fit in there I guess was a sex change operation. [grin]
Since that day the word "diversity" has made my skin crawl. People who use it are always wanting to include some at the expense of others. It is in reality an exclusionary word.
We told the artist to include one longhaired man or three. We didn't want two because we are not a dating site. We didn't want more than three due to clutter considerations. We told him those shown should not be real people, and should be representative of all of us. He chose a man of average age with long but not outlandishly long hair. He provided what we asked for, and to my eye, it's great!

An American-American
And don't look at my last name and call me a Franco-American, because I hate canned spaghetti....
Wow, I hadn't even thought of the "dating" association of a two-faced logo! Bill, thanks for these explanations, now I understand the board's considerations a lot better - and, of course, I won't change my basic opinion on the logo (see subject line ;-)
