Hey guys -
One thing I notice is that when I don't blow the ends under, my hair does this flip thing, (worse during high humidity days), naturally,
so I get this big wing type thing on either side! (Kinda' resembles a bad version of the flying nun).
I was just wondering, when the hair gets longer, (it's just past my neck/almost to the top of the blades), will the weight of the hair then help it not to do this?
Anything besides blowing that could help?
I've become real concious of not blowdrying unless I have to, (like for work at the office), since I want to do as little damage to it as I can.
Thanks.

PS - Can somebody post some longhair men's fashions so I can see what some of my options are? I've been cruising the net and only found a few different styles, braids, etcetera.
By the way, one of the hottest looks I've ever seen period is long,
crimped hair. It always gets my immediate attention, and I think it's one of the greatest looks with longer hair.
There's this guy who I see around who's got hair down to about mid back, and it's all crimped, all the time. Could this be curly being pulled out some because of the weight of it?
If I wanted to do this to my hair as a temporary style to see how I look with it, when it gets longer, how would I, and then what if I'd want it permanently?
I'm not talking about curly. I heard that if you braid it all over in small braids, that's one way, but wouldn't that take forever?
This isn't quite right. Putting a few small, tight braids will make your hair very wavy, but you can't use too many. I do this on a fairly regular basis: after I wash my hair, I comb it out carefully, and put it up in two (just 2!), very tight french braids. It takes up to 24 hours to dry, (less if i'm outside), but when it is dry, I take out the braids, and have the almost-crimped, really cool curly style that attracts a lot of compliments. Probably if you put in spray or styling products before braiding it would hold better (mine only holds well for about 2-3 hours), but i haven't tried it.
Mini-braids, however, don't really crimp your hair in any way that's manageable. I've done this style about once a year to my own hair (and other people's), and put in about 80 small braids. However, when these are taken out, the result is not curls, or waves, but mostly just frizz. Again, I haven't tried putting them in with styling products, but I think that would get the hair incredibly disgusting, since I usually leave the braids in for a couple weeks. (It takes me about 8 hours to do to my hair; I'm going to get the full enjoyment before i take it out!)
The picture is one of me with minibraids in, about 3 years ago. The link is what it looked like after I took them out. :)

Incredible! That looks really great! (Not to mention you're a very beautiful lady, hair or no!).
I really like the idea of the french braid. Love the crimped look you spoke of, but wish there was another way of getting it to stay longer, though. I HATE putting gel, cream or hairspray in my hair - it really feels gross, and the surprising thing that's always made me wonder is that whenever I've gotten a haircut, trim, whatever, the
person working on me always insists on putting stuff in my hair, even after I've (had to finally), pointedly demanded that he/she not. I've had one or two that did it anyway. Don't know what's up with that!
Anyway, thanks for the pic. The really cool thing is that I'm moving to an intentional community in January in southern Virginia, which means of course my hair will be free to do whatever it darn well pleases! Several guys there are long-haired, and I won't ever have to worry about the length. I was thinking that the crimp style would be nice though for a change, as well as for special occasions.
By the way, for curly wanna'be's;
Years ago, I saw a design for long hair in this fashion rag that I just fell ga-ga over!!! Alas, I had short hair at the time, but man I swore on the spot if I ever grew my hair out, I'd try it. (Another month or six, maybe?).
Here's what you do:
Section off towel dried, damp hair in something like 2 inch squares. Take each section, lean it in the direction you want it to end up going, (front hair to the back or side), and twist the hair around and around untill it's a twirled column, (uhhh . . . technical term there, don't you know?) :0)
Keep going untill it twirls on itself into a buntype on the scalp, (don't go too tight, you don't want to break it), and then pin it in place. Do this to all the sections, then go about your day. (Yeah, you'll have to do this first thing in the morning, if you want it to air dry.).
When it's dry, undo all your clips and finger out your hair and into place.
I think that's pretty much it. The one thing I remember distinctly is the twisting and pinning, because the model was photographed in all different parts of the process. Her hair was great afterwards!!!
I would imagine that the larger the sections you made, the larger the waves would be, which could be really great for lots of wavy, bouncy hair.
Good luck guys!!!
And thanks Barb! I love your posts - at this point I've pretty much read the whole board! Great stuff!

PS - I can't believe I'm sitting here talking about what to do with my long growing hair with a bunch of guys. That's no offense intended by any means. It's a complete compliment and I'm pretty much having alot of ideas blown out of the water. Great growth experience!
(Uhhh . . . no pun intended!!!)
That is a wow, her crimped hair is great. I do my wifes with a crimping iron but it is a slow process also. Her hair does hold better if i spray it first but it will stay crimped for days that way, not as tight as the picture shown though. I wonder how long it took to do the
braids rg
Hey!! How do I crimp my hair with just moose, gel, and hair spray. My hair is so frizzy and with a crimping iron,it just makes it worse. Michelle
- Try using a shampoo designed for frizzy hair and or curling enchanchancer. I don't think hair spray will help crimp you hair, moose will give it a little bit more of a softer feel, gel will be a little bit "chrunching" feel. After you shampoo and condition, towel dry your hair and make sure to use products that can be used on wet hair. Put gel OR moose into your palm, rub your hands together and you can either start crunching your hair while standing up or flip your head over so your hair falls making it easier to distrube the moose OR gel. Crunch until desired, and don't brush it or add more products. Hopes this helps!
I understand you completely! When my hair was medium length...it would always get that damn flip and I'd be so mad I would literally pull it and curse at it. The flip vanished when my hair grew longer...up to probably shoulder length because by then the hair would look nice. For now just stick to blow drying or use an air brush. You could usually buy them at Kmart or walmart for only fifteen some dollars. Good luck man.
Hey LHW!
Thanks - actually, my hair's already past my shoulders. It's the hair that's growing out on the sides and near the back. It's not all one length yet, but it's nice knowing there's hope! :0)
By the way, do you have a pic of you? Great handle, would love to see what the mane behind the name looks like!
Do people ever post their pics here?
