Hi,
I am an undergrad law student in the UK with long hair (2 and half years growth). For getting the highest mark in the year last term, I won a weeks work experience with a firm of solicitors in West Yorkshire sometime next month. Whilst I accept that I will eventually have to have cut off, do you think that I could get away with working at a firm of solicitors for a week with long hair? It would really hurt me to have it cut just for one week's work.
Regards - William
Dont cut your hair for one weeks work. It's not worth it. Especialy when you hair will take 130 weeks to grow back to the length you have it at.
Hi William,
If you won an award for getting the highest marks in the year, it would be insane to then be personally punished by having to cut your hair in order to accept that award. I have a friend in Boston who is a legal secretary in a large law firm, and according to him, one of the lawyers there has had a ponytail there for a long time. I would most definitely NOT cut your hair, if I was in your shoes; but then again, only you can decide this for yourself.
My best to you!

Certainly don't cut it if you haven't even been asked to.
I think it's very unlikely they would expect you to cut your hair for one week's work experience. You may even be able to get away with keeping it long after you graduate, if you end up working for the right kind of law firm (of course you may not want to limit your choices in that way).
Well done on getting the best marks, btw!
I work for a law firm in the US, as a patent agent. If you are that good I think you will find employment without cutting your hair. I beleive we may have had one or two long haired lawyers on here, as well as long haired examples of most other lines of work.
Thanks, that is really encouraging to know that :)

You accept that you'll eventually have to cut it off? Why do you say that?
William;
Congratulations on the grades and the appointment.
I would not even consider cutting your hair for a one week Internship.....What are they going to do? Fire You? HA!
And don't assume that you will eventually have to cut your hair (unless you choose to do so). Many firms and clients will welcome a long-hair (read "open-minded") lawyer.
Good Luck
Thankyou everyone, that was the response I was hoping for!
Regards,
William
No, keep it long, dont be daft!
There is no such thing as 'having to cut it', if you keep it clean and neat in a ponytail no-one can or should expect you to do anything. It's about time you professional blokes with long hair stood up for yourselves (yeah, i know its hard)
