Well...I did it! Yesterday I put my hair in a ponytail..and went out in public! I wasnt really worried about random comments walking down the street..it was at work where I was wondering what people would think..for the most part co-workers really liked it..I heard cute..very handsome..it was also so good to not have to deal with my hair at work...i just tied it back and that was it..my scrungi stayed in all day too!! Very happy with the results!
CONGRATS, man, --- that's definitely considered a major "milestone" in these here parts!!
Over time, the nice thing that will happen is that eventually you won't even give it a second thought about what others think, -- or if they "approve" of you long hair; whether if it's in a ponytail, braid, or bun. While I agree that it's definitely nice to hear praises from co-workers & others in your life, you also don't want negative comments about you being a longhair to turn into devastating your feelings, either... I have no clue why society in general can have such deep-seated prejudices against longhairs; but unfortunately, they still do in many parts of the world.
In any case, sounds like you must have a great head of hair there! If you ever feel like it, send us a pic, --- I'm sure we'll heap praises loud & clear on you, too!!

...doesn't it?! I made my first tail about 3 1/2 years ago and it was a
very good feeling indeed!
I was pretty self concious about it also when I first tried it about 3-4 weeks ago (see pic just above); now it's pretty standard when I am out in this New Orleans heat and humidity.
It is a good feeling, isn't it. One of the progress moments!

Congratulations! I only started wearing a ponytail myself about a month ago, I had been very self conscious about it too (It was for that reason that it took me so long to start wearing them regularly in public.) I had the same reactions, albeit different scenarios; some of my buddies who ridiculed my hair admitted that it looked good tied back.
I'm starting to get into buns now. It's fun undoing them and feeling the hair flop down on your back, hehe.
Isn't it just the greatest feeling now that you have made-it to the top? Bet you have no regrets in the slighest. Hang in there however, for even better is yet in store. :-)
Bravo!
