Hi everyone!!
My name's Craig (or Althar :p), I'm 16, and I live in France (I speak english aswell).
I've been viewing this board for about 5 months, and I must say it was one of my principal motivator.
7 months ago (I'm pretty sure I started growing in Februar 2006), I had short hair like always, and for no reason ;), 3 months later I officially decided to grow it out.
I'm don't know if I would look good or else with long hair, but It felt natural for me to do it (btw: each time I got my hair cut, every 2months or so, I always felt "naked" the first few weeks :s).
I have thin wavy (didn't know it was like that till I let it grow) red hair, and I'm approximating 11cm of hair lengh after 7 months of growth (for a rate of approx 1.6cm/month).
I haven't got a pic to show you yet, but hearing from my family/friends my hair is coming out great!! :p
I've read on the board, that many people have discriminating problems, or bad comments from all kinds of people...
I would have to say that I'm very lucky at this point.
The huge support I'm having is going to be very helpfull for my future growth progress.
I actually have lots and lots of positiv comments. My friends for the most(others don't care) tell me that I actually look better with hair this way (hoping it'll get even better when it's long :p). Same as my friends, my family (except my dad, who doesn't say anything because my mother spoke with him about it) gives me positiv comments and advices. I for example pushed my brother to do the same (he is very jealous of my hair, and says it loud and clear), but as a shame he has got very straight hair and could'nt get past the "bowl look" :s.
Strange thing, with my wavy hair, even in the awkward phase, after I tweak the shooting hair on the sides, my hair actually looks messy/cool ;), wich isn't possible with straight hair that easely :s.
Anyway, before my mum got to cut/chop it off, she tryed to convince him not to cut it, otherwise he was going to regret it. An other proof of my family support, and especially my mother, she has started telling people, friends, etc that I'm growing my hair out :) .
I'll be posting a progress pic later on, when my progress gets interessting. Still, I'll keep learning and being jealous of other longhairs on this magnificent board.
Keep groing!!! ;)
Welcome; i wish i had more time to write but i quickly wanted to say that I wish my French were as good as your English.
Salut! I'm new here as well, oddly enough I'm in the same type of support situation too. My mother loves my hair, my friends think it looks better, and my father just doesn't say anything at all :)
Good luck with the growth, and I'm looking forward to the progress pictures, as I always am with anybody's!
...I just let my hair grow out without worrying about 'evening things out.'
At first your hair may look like it has different lengths in front and in the back, but eventually--as it gets longer and longer--the hair seems to "even out." How this happens is a mystery to me. I mean we are supposed to shed approximately 100 hairs per day so maybe over the course of several years the hair does even itself out somehow.
In the meantime, just use a good quality shampoo (main ingredient: sodium laureth sulfate) and use plenty of conditioner after EACH shampooing.
I use L'Oreal products like Smooth-Intense PRO Shampoo and the conditioner (with the same name).
Good Luck!
Salut Althar,
welcome to the board ; enjoy having a supportive family.
We will be waiting for the day you will post a picture !

Hi Craig and welcome to the board!
That is terrific that you get such support for your growing out your hair (amazing from your mom too that isn't very common!) It's good that you are doing it now too when you are young and have lots of years more to enjoy it.
You don't need to wait to post a pic, plenty of people post pics of where they are starting from. They make great avatars, especially because people often forget to change them and then you can really see the progress being made! So no need to wait til its longer if you are comfortable posting a pic at all :)
I decided to post pics of my hair progress (I had a really good hair day, and took some photographs :p).
Anyway hope you like it. Here are three pics (hoping it works) about my progress, the last ones have been took today, as for the other one is from 4 Months of growth.
I love the way it's coming out. I actually think I look older on the last progress, wich is really cool.
Another good thing with having wavy type of hair, well at least for the moment, is that after I comb my bangs, they'll stay put, and not get into my eyes (wich they do when I shower).
