So I was told today by my boss that I can't let my hair get any longer! I only do this job (reffin American football) for 3 months and then all is good and I can let it grow again. But the hair can't buldge out of my hat and its to that point now. So do I just get a trim and then let it grow or will that really stunt my long hair growth? Also, what do i tell the stylist? Is there a special cut to "set up" the hair for long growth? Sorry if these questions seem stupid but I've had a shaved head for 17 years and have no idea about long hair. Just that I want it!! haha.
It is okay you don't know how to grow your hair, Leebo. You have experience in no hair instead. It is neat you have an interest in both. First off, you can't mess up the mechanics of future growth with cutting. It won't change the amount that is able to grow and neither will your years of shaving. If you had been waxing and pulling hair out including the root bulb on the end of each hair then you would have had an impact on future growth.
I am wondering, do you get to keep the hat on the whole time you work? If so with gel or hairspray you could comb all your hair toward the crown of your head. Hidden under your hat the hair will not be peeking out and you'd be following the dictate. This may be too much fuss for your shorter hairs now but would be a good workaround for next year if you hold the same job.
If a trim is what it takes see if you can only have the neckline cut and leave all the other hairs to grow. Short haircuts tend to have the hairs each being the same length rather than long hair which for many people means hairs of different lengths trying to reach the same point on the body. If you trim only the bottom you are still setting yourself up for long hair while you give the upper hairs time to catch up with the lower scalp hairs that have less far to grow.
Enjoy the process, Leebo!
