basicly a friend of mine told me its a derogatory term...i didnt know
any name suggestions?
Since when is "muffin man" a derogatory term? I love love LOVE muffins, --- especially blueberry! Maybe even "blueberry' is some obscure derogatory term... but, who cares! Unless someone can truly convince you that your screen name is a COMMONLY-KNOWN derogatory term, I'd leave it alone, if I were you.

If you look hard enough, you can probably find someone who has a problem with just about anything. Just because they have a problem with it doesn't mean you have a problem with it.
Are large people offended at me because I proclaim it in my name? Their problem, not mine.
Might some people look at "cowboy" as a result of a sexual nature? IF so, they're at fault; not the millions who profess to be cowpeople.
And if someone comments about "muffinman" being somewhat off the wall, just grin and say nothing. Let them think what they want.
If you constantly try to please others, you will never please yourself.

Seeing your name I hum the nursery rhyme so no other associations here. I tried to look up what the slur is and found an entertaining page called the Racial Slur Database. Some are pretty obscure, one that had me laughing was 'dandruff' for white people. Best I can figure is black people have been called 'muffin heads' from time to time based on the look of an afro hairdo. Come to think of it, that describes a lot of any race guys whose hair is poofy before length begins to weigh it down.
Intent and reception matters here. You don't mean anything disrespectful by your name and the moderators would have let you know if they had been getting complaints. Keep Themuffinman if you like it, it is how we know you. Unless of course you really do live on Drury Lane and don't want it known.

Since you are a musician how about something musical, favorite bands appear in user names around here or maybe a cool or powerful musical term like 'forte' or something (hey how about somebody who really is a musician help me out here :) ) or style of music.
Hobbies might provide another source, o hey you shouldn't listen to me when it comes to creative user names anyway, what do I know ;)
