I posted a couple comments and questions on here a few times but i realized i never got the chance to properly introduce myself to this board.
My name's scott, i'm 19. I started to grow out my hair on December 23rd when i was kicked out of the navy (got into too many fights) now that i'm not forced to cut my hair every 6 days i'm not cutting it ever again! i hav'nt cut it since and right now my hair is at an "akward phase" as you guys would call it where my hair is long enough to get over my eyes but too short to tuck behind the ears >.<
I was a long hair in high school with hair about a foot long all around. I had always wanted to be a long hair since i was REALLY little but my parents would make me get a haircut. But i did have long hair in high school and then made the BIGGEST mistake of my like and joined the navy. Well i have been growing my hair out ever since i got kicked out and my hair is about 6 inches long in front and about 3 and a half inches on the sides and back.
I want long hair for two reasons, to use my bangs to cover up parts of my face and also because i've always been an otaku (anime fan) and anime guys 9 times out of 10 have long hair and i think it looks good on them (and anime chicks are damn hot but i'm not going there ^^')
Anyways i want to be a full member on here and have access to the chat room and such
If i did this right my pic should be at the top of this post (not quite sure if i did it right tho...)
Hi otaku and welcome to the board!
Well you're at the perfect stage for the anime look then I think if you can cover over one eye. I know that was a popular look for anime characters WAY BACK when I actually watched anime enough to be familiar with the popular ones, now I only know the names of some of them lol. I first thought of the guy above as he was one of the first like that I encountered, Captain Harlock circa 1981!

Hi ChrisG and otaku,
what a coincidence, I cleaned up my Captain Albator (Harlock in french) series yesterday. That is a simple hero with a great heart, and a great mane of hair (-:
Honestly, nowadays who still dare wearing a cloak like him in the street ?!
2 series exist : Albator 1978, and Albator 1984

Hi Garath,
I had no idea there was another fan of older anime among us:)
The 70s and 80s were my time too be a huge Japanimation fan (that's the word we used in the United States before the Japanese coined the word anime).
Did you donwload the series fron the internet and use some kind of video editing software on it when you said you cleaned it up?
There are many old series and movies that I would be interesting in getting that have been fansubbed and that might be available on the net. Other Matsumoto works of course and others.
Where did you get the series if it was from the internet. I am a newbie when it comes to downloading media :)
Thanks,
Chris
Hi ChrisG,
Last week, I simply wanted to reduce the number of media to store this anime : 1 DVD instead of 8 CD ...
I watched this one when I was very young (maybe 5), and I forgot it ... until I began to be a anime fan again 6 years ago.
Now, this enthusiasm has somewhat faded out for me, but it has left some tracks : I began lerning japanese, and I ended up with tons of CD-ROMs that take now too much space ...
About the availability of the anime on the Internet, see the private mail I'll send you shortly.
Garath
Welcome Scott. Everyone's pretty cool here. A friendly bunch of guys. I too was in the navy and pleased to be out of that environment.
Same here. Last haircut was October 20, 2005. It's a tough patch to get through at this length.
Cool. Must have looked great I'm sure.
Anime isn't my cup of tea but I would agree the male characters do always look great with their long hair. I like the 'hair over one eye' look, although I know some on this board wouldn't like it because it reminds them of emo.
Nice to meet you and see you around!
LukeB
i love the over one eye look......but the whole "emo" thing is ruining not only that but long bangs in general is starting to be considered "emo"
LukeB...you were in the navy, how many years?? did you get kicked out?? what ship were you on??
Not sure where you are, but I'm in Australia so I was in the Royal Australian Navy for 6 years, and was on HMAS Torrens and HMAS Brisbane. I left of my own accord because I was fed up with it all. So much garbage you have to put up with.
LukeB
I like the whole over one eye look as well. I don't like how it is often considered "emo" because a hairstyle in itself can't really be anything but a hairstyle.
I do think the "emo" hairstyles can be attractive on some people, though.
out of 10 have long hair and i think it looks good on them
(and anime chicks are damn hot but i'm not going there ^^')"
You have very nice hair: great texture, etc, so the 'awkward phase' might not be much of a problem for you.
BUT growing out your hair can also a psychological roller coaster ride for some guys.
The desire to be a Longhair should come from somewhere deep within yourself or you may end up discovering that the Journey will be way too difficult.
Family and friends may try to persuade you to 'give up' or to
change your mind and you are going to need lots of 'inner strength' and courage to reach you goal.
So, think about it, sleep on it and then if you still want to do it...
...then Good Luck on your Long Hair Journey!
I've been a long hair before with hair past sholder length back in 04, i WANT long hair for MYSELF to cover parts of my face and i think it looks good...so when my parents or friends tell me to cut it i simply tell them i am growing it out ....
but if i have done it before i can do it again....
Dude, calm down. It's just growing hair. Hahaha. You make it sound like he's training to become a Samurai or something.
It's not that complicated. it's just a matter of not cutting your hair...very simple actually
i can already tell that longhairs gonna suit you....fight? wow you dont look like the fighting type
my favorite longhair manga man was D from vempire D: Bloodlust
Hi Scott,
it's good to have you around. Your hair is perfect for growing it out - keep it up forever!
One off-topic remark: Maybe it was good that you had to leave the navy. However, IF you are still unhappy about the number of fights you are getting into now, THEN you can always check for aggression management courses with your local library or, possibly, a counselor. They also teach how to manage the aggressiveness of OTHERS. I didn't mean to be intrusive, though.
Best of luck, and, looking forward to your updates!
