I've seen a number of posts here that taking vitamins/supplements are a waste of time as far as growth rate is concerned. My experience seems to be the opposite; I am taking supplements formulated towards hair growth. When I posted my nine month pictures, several commented on how fast my hair was growing.
I am getting about 3/4 to 1 inch per month; it actually measures out to 1 inch every 1 1/4 months (five weeks). I have been taking measurments every two weeks since May, and will have a good average of monthly growth by the end of the year. I'm expecting to be in the 9 to 10 inch range annually.
Several have commented on my rate of growth, both on here and in "real life". Has anyone else experienced similar growth rates due to vitamins or supplements? Or is just another of my "I'm off the beaten path" issues that sets me apart once again from most people?
Comments welcome.

Supplements certainly are important. This debate has gone on in cycles for years. There was good research going on in 1999. Biotin is a factor in hair growth. Average hair growth is about 1/4 inch perweek- about 6 1/2 inch per year. I am sixty years old and have been taking supplements for 15 years. My hair still grows more than average. I haven't seen a doctor since 1979.
George,
Hard to know if you don't have measurements from before you started taking the supplements.
Bottom line is that you have quick growing hair. You might try stopping the supplements and see what happens over a 2-3 month period.
Also, there are some reports that hair grows faster during the summer months, and your period of May until now covers that period.

What kind of pills do you take? I have normal hair growth rate I would be willing to give this a try to see if my rate changes.
I take the supplements from Hair Formula 37; information is on their web site at http://www.hairformula37.com/
I'd also like to know what supplement you take. If it were to work, I'd be willing to try (unless it was very expensive, of course)
If you aren't eating right or are not active in your life. That can certainly make hair growth slower. Taking vitamins and supplements and having an active lifestyle -excercise,being in shape, having a healthy body- will help you reach your maximum growth each month.
If you do not have the necessary vitamins and nutrients as i said before. Your hair growth will be much slower, and most people are nowhere near there maximum growth rate from having a poor diet.
I try to eat somewhat healthy. Almost no fried foods. Salads and vegies with each meal. Lots of fish and seafood (after all, I am in New Orleans), broiled or grilled chicken and meat, whole wheat breads and rice, etc. I also try to stay active, however having my knee scoped a few months ago has slowed me down recently.
Hi Big George,
2.5 cm in one months is WAYS abouve average - congratulations! You may not need any supplements.
For those who want to try, I find the following regime helpful:
- 1 tablet of B-100 twice weekly (contains 100 mg of B-1, B-2, B-6, niacin)
- 10 mg of biotin twice weekly (DON'T combine with eggs; they inactivate it)
- 60 mg of Zinc twice weekly
- 5 mg of folic acid twice weekly
- 1 mg of vitamin B-12 twice weekly
- 400 micrograms of iodide twice weekly (but NOT if you have overfunction of your thyroid gland - in that case, AVOID iodide)
However, if you don't see any positive hair change after, say, three to six months, then I'd stop spending money for this.
Avoid Vitamin A tablets, a balanced diet contains more than enough, and an excess may cause hair loss. Also, avoid iron, unless you are clearly iron deficient (and, perhaps, anemic). Also, I'd avoid selenium supplements.
Just my two cents
Happy growth!
