Hi - just got myself back online at home after more than 5 weeks (due to moving house), its good to be back!
Now to the question, what do you guys do with the hair thats directly above your sideburns. Do you let this grow and tuck behind your ears, grow to a certain length and allow to cover your sideburns or just cut completly? If you have just allowed it to grow does it fit into a ponytail if not is it noticable? Any photos you can provide would be helpful.
Incase your in any doubt about what hair im refering to its not the facial hair its the hair the grows directly above the sideburns.
Many Thanks,
Mogh
Don't cut--do either one of three things depending on length and circumstances--a. push behind ears, b. if long enough tie back in tail, c. let hang down if wet and drying or if that's what you want all the time.
If it will sweep over my ears, I don't trim it at all. If it won't (because it is too low) I trim it so it appears to be the same length that I am trimming my beard at the time. The real transition between coarser beard hair and finer mane hair is even with the middle of my ear, but the length transition is about an inch higher.
I said "appears to be" because finer mane hair needs a bit more length to provide the same bulk, and thus appear to have the same length, as coarser beard hair.

Everyone is different.
Each person needs to determine the point in which the sieburn/beard needs to be trimmed to conform to breard length, and when it will grow out an sweep back with the other hair. I need to trim mine at mid ear length, but my SO can grow his so it sweeps up over and back his ears to join the rest of his long hair. The difference is that his hair is straight and mine is curly.
They both work.
You have to find your own way.
Thanks for replying, a few months back i cut mine becuase my sideburns were looking a bit messy and i decided to trim the hair above them slightly. However like your son i would now like to brush it back behind my ears to join the the rest of the long hair - but my concern is that the hair is now shortter then the rest so I imagine its going to take some time before it will fit into my ponytail.
yeh that can get annoying, as it grows really thin and whispy.......some people trim/cut it when it gets to long when they shave etc, but personally id just leave it unless you wear a pony in which you can just tuck it behind your ears....

I normally have long sideburns (no beard) but decided to shave them. A few months ago i decided to trim the hair (roots at the lowest point) just above the sideburns. At the time my reasoning was (as you said) they grow very thin and whispy and mine also had a tendancy to curl slightly so i would have to have them tucked behind my ears even when my hair was down which i found quite annoying.
I guess i was just a bit worried that this was a mistake - i think i will let them grow back but my concern is that my hair should fit completly into a ponytail quite easily by the end of the year (been growing i beleive for approx 13 months possibly longer) and i'm worried that they will be the only strands of hair not to fit in the tail and look a little out of place.
(PS - i did post a response earlier today but it never seemed to go past the screening stage)

I just let it grow and eventually it gets tangled in with the nearest dreadlock. A littl bit stays loose and curly, makes it look like a Jewish Peyo(sp)
