Well I've experienced being mistaken for a musician now, my hair must be really getting long to experience those comments. I'm only a little startled at comments now and for the most part I've experienced either positive or no comments at all which is comforting to me but experiencing a truly negative comment I believe I'll be ready when or if it happens because the hair stays, I'm a more open and happy soul with it!
In Louisiana, especially New Orleans, that's an honor; some of best music in the country is from New Orleans.
Just remember, everything is a positive. If some jerk throws a barb at you it's because you have achieved what you are striving for, and he either can't or won't due to his insecurity issues. People confident in their own being don't have to degrade others to make them feel better.
People who are still searching for their own identity yet are too afraid to buck the norm or the popular trends commonly attempt to degrade others to build themselves up in their own minds. Currently, in my own case, I enjoy these comments. It reinforces the fact that I have moved beyond, and don't have to sink to their level to feel good.
Consider it another sign of success!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement,
What I find encouraging is I find myself being more assertive and sure of myself which is a good sign that with the symbolism of long hair I'm finding more inner peace and joy...
There are two major clues that help a man know when he's grown long hair, and both are very good things:
* It's long enough to ponytail
* He starts getting mistaken for a woman
Grats, and well done.
Don't sweat it man!!as long as you love the way you look...you'll be able to shrug off negative comments easily!!
