I don't know how to post several pictures so I put them all in one.
The first picture is from 3 years ago and you can see I had a nice, healthy mane full of volume. It actually grew a bit longer than the picture shows before the damage began.
The second picture is from last night. About 2 and a half years ago I had the misfortune of having a female friend talk me into using a straightening iron which I became hooked on for about 2 months before finally wising up. The damage had been done though. On top of this, I started getting lazy and blowdrying my hair regularly for several months. Also, I stopped getting trims so the damage started travelling up the hair shaft.
I've been trying for the past 2 years or so to restore my hair without sacrificing the length. I would take maybe 1/4 inch off every 2 months in hopes that the damage would eventually be gone after my hair would grow back little by little but, it didn't work out that way. My ends were so bad that these trims were really resolving abolutely nothing and the damage kept spreading like a cancer and my hair seemingly wasn't growing any more. I had wondered if I reached terminal length but I vaguely remembered that my hair had been longer years back and was indeed thick and full. The first picture proves it.
Anyhow, the third picture was just taken after I finally threw in the towel and had around 3 inches taken off. Most of the damage seems to be gone and I have ends again! It's a step in the right direction but I have more work to do to get it back to where it was in the first picture and even beyond that! I was actually rough on my hair years back with the way I brushed it but since I let it dry naturally and didn't use anything on it, it was more resilliant and held up better. I know if I can get it at full volume again, I can make it even nicer than it was with the things I've learned over the years.
The thing is, I have many broken hairs on the top of my head that are only several inches in length and that is taking away from my volume as well. I'm hoping that these will gradually start to fill back in.
Sorry for the length.
it looks better:) and it'll be back in no time:)
Here's another pic that displays the progress from before the damage which is about 3 and a half years ago, after the damage taken in Feb., and the progress picture from after the trim taken yesterday.
Again, the trim was a GOOD idea.
I think your hair really needed the trim because it was getting very thin toward the ends.
The trim was a GOOD idea...so don't regret it!
sorry for the mistake!
Oooooh! Straightening irons are the work of the devil! Great hair, and well done for taking the brave step of cutting off a lump for the long term good. It'll be back before you know it.
