Im not talking about shaving hair on the top of your head but I was wondering if anyone here uses electric shavers? Ive always used the standard razor and shaving foam but I am looking to buy an electric shaver for university before I go next week. My question is to any of you that uses them... do they give a shave just as good as a razor or at least a good enough close shave to look like you have actually shaved? Ive been told that the price of electric shavers only compensate to the look and the features of the electric shaver but they actually all give just the same results of shave yet I still dont know what the results of an electric shaver is >.< Any help would be appreciated!!
About my hair to keep on topic.. Im cutting it before I go to university.. and I cant wait! A girl said to me that one of the benefits of being a guy is being able to have short hair as she said hair care is too much trouble... it got me thinking a lot and ive decided I could do without the trouble to be honest... also Im told a lot that I suit shorter hair more.. Im one that sees 98 percent of guys suiting longer hair more because I love seeing long hair on guys but I really feel that im in that 2 percent region where I actually suit short hair more! But ill still be playin with my hair as I like to shave my side burns to a small thin point and keeping the edges of my hair straight and sharp... sounds like a lot of work but ive come to fidn long hair is a lot more harder to maintain so my hat comes off to you long hairs! Anyways sorry to go off point, any help with the shavers would be appreciated =)
I use an electric. Electric shavers don't shave as close as a blade, but good ones can shave fairly close. Maybe I should clarify this a bit. Shaving with an electric beats blade shaving with the grain, ie. in a downwards direction, but blade shaving against the grain, ie. in an upwards direction, beats electric shaving, if you get my drift.
You have to remember electric shavers work by allowing the hair to pass through one side of a screen while a rotating or oscillating "blade" moves past it on the other side, thereby slicing it off. The hair length after shaving is the same as the thickness of the screen, more or less.
Avoid the really cheap ones. They're often very irritating to your face. Some more expensive models allow wet shaving and could even be used in the shower. They tend to give a smoother shave than when used dry. Shaving oils can be used with any type of electric. Results will vary from one person to the next so you may need to experiment, but lubrication does help.
Electric shavers are convenient but for baby-smooth skin, nothing beats a good quality blade.

I would suggest NOT getting an electric razor - they do not get as close and frankly save little time.
Now before you cut your hair (although you do not say how long yours is) I would suggest that you both think again and observe the two week rule.
Looking after your hair is not that difficult and I suspect that this girl is trying to impose her view rather than thinking about you.
University is the one time of your life when you do have time to do many things and few people make silly demands on you. So think very carefully and bring your thoughts here before doing anything silly.
Hey there hubby :) Ok, well obviously I wouldn't know about the razor thing, but I do have an opinion on you cutting your hair. You see, I just started going to SFSU, and let me tell you, a guy with long hair is hard to come across. Believe me, regardless of what this other girl said, from a female point of view, the more a guy stands out, the better. Personally, long hair is my biggest weakness, and I know many others who feel the same way, so please, before you do anything drastic, consider that you would be giving up a feature that girls see first, and remember always. P.S. send me a pic, lets see if you really are part of that 2%. I doubt it :)
I'm not crazy about electric razors. It's supposed to be easier, but essentially you end up running the blade over more than you would with a regular razor to get the type of shave one would be used to from using a regular razor. Also, if you don't use a decent shaving gel, which is a must with electric razors, the pain of razor rash is far worse, at least for me, with an electric. To each his own though, some people like them.
Concerning the razor, I am currently in my third year and still use a blade, but then again I only shave once a week so I am probably not the most reliable source for info on this one.
Cutting you hair before college, though, is not something that I would advise. Then again, this would depend on how long you hair currently is and how short you want to go. At the university that I attend the shaggy and longer hairstyles are making a hugs comeback which I have found quite refreshing. College is about exploring who you are as a person. If this mean that you come to the conclusion that you are not suited to be a traditional long hair, then by all means choose whatever will suit you. Bear in mind that you do not have to follow the trend of shaving your head as many long to short hair converts have. In the end it is up to you, and you have four years of experimentation to figure out what is right for you. Best of luck.
Blades shave closer, but electrics give less irritation, at least for me. Either one will still give you the clean shaven look though.
In my opinion it depends on your skin type too. My skin is very sensitive and soft, I have tried electric razors for convenience reasons but even after a month of continuous use my face just wouldn't get used to electric razors. So I use a rather wicked old school double edge razor, which, now ive got te hang of it is great. My dad on the other hand (who has slightly tougher skin) uses an electric razor every day and his face shows no sign of irritation and it gives a very even shave (albeit not quite as close) in less than half of the time it takes me to have a shave. Like LukeB says, I would avoid cheaper electric razors because they do have a tendancy to irritate. Also, if you do get an electric razor and experience some slight irritation, give it a few weeks before you give up with it as it takes time for your skin to adjust to your new razor.
I hope this helps you :-)

I'm not sure why you're posting here. We all get pressure to cut but you seem to actually like short hair. If that's what you like, go for it but most of us here don't like short hair.
Don't be so sure about short hair being easier. It depends on your hair type, but wavy hair like mine is more uncontrllable the shorter it is, and needs weight to keep it under control.
The girl you spoke to didn't perceive short hair as an option for herself, even though a lot of women have short hair, and was lamenting her lack of choice. It isn't true. We all have a choice.
Jason has a point in asking why you are posting here. I don't know either.
If you want simplicity and less trouble, the best thing is to grow a beard! No razors or electric shavers needed. I don't like either of them.
As for your hair, the best hair length you can have is the one YOU like. Good luck either way, with the hair and university.
Thanks guys, ill think about it but I feel I was happier with short hair and Ill try and get some pics Lynsey before I cut... to Jason and Electros... like it or not I have long hair as I post and just because Im asking for information about shaving doesnt mean I dont have any knowledge of how to maintain and care for long hair... having my sister as a hairdresser probably makes me more wiser than you both about hair products as she gives me professional advice on hair care... and If you were to lose your hair and your not welcome here... then I'd rather leave now... from the comments that the supportive members of this site gave me... I think I'll hold it out to see how I feel about my hair while at University... I do take criticism but I dont take narrow minded bullshit about who is welcome anywhere in this world... To Jason... Im not actually sure why your replying to my post! To othe others, thanks again and especially to Luke B... I think ill save my money and stick to what I know.
I bow to your sister..
Yes, please add my name to your list of both Jamie and Electros. I will feel much honored to have you do so.

I took what Jason said at face value. Neither of us were sure why you posted, but I think I know now. You apparently wanted to be talked out of cutting your hair, which is a common thing on here, but you confused us a bit. Threw us off the scent, if you like.
You don't have to have long hair to post here, but on the face of it you posted that you liked short hair and asked about shaving your beard. It's legitimate for Jason to wonder why you posted that, and I agreed that I didn't know either, that's all.
As for the hairdresser thing, well they aren't brain surgeons, you know. I respect their ability to style hair by cutting it, although that's something I don't have much call for, but we can all read labels.
I use an electric shaver, what convinced me to do it was the price of buying FIVE RAZOR BLADES.
The other thing that convinced me to go electric: our local razor company was bought out, thousands were laid off. And they
initially promised no layoffs.
I won't mention the name but the Patriots play in their stadium.
