Hey Guys...
Having read this board and being new to the Longhairs, I would like to give it a shot. I'm 49 and graying. Is it too late for me to start growing long? I have gotten down to the collar three or four times before and ended up cutting.
Still got a good head of hair. Whenever I go in for a cut, the stylist tells me that my hair is nice and thick...
Too late for a go at it??? What do ya think?
A lot of the men at the MLHH are older guys, and I think gray is just as admirable as any other color. If you want, look through the User Directory to get a look at how nice gray hair looks when it's long. Some of the guys here also have MPB, and it still looks great when it's long.
Good luck, and I hope you decide to stick around and grow it out!
and by the way, it is NEVER too late! As long as your hair still grows... :)
Grow it! Grey hair is beautiful.
Hiya youngster!
Welcome to the O.F. group of this board (Old Farts); or if you are like me, the O.F.F. (Old Fat Farts). I'm 52; just started growing my hair out about 9-10 months ago for the first time in over 30 years. I also have racing stripes up top. And like you, I got to the collar two or three times before going for it.
There are a number of guys on here in our age bracket. Join up, let it grow, and have some fun.

Go for it!! I'm 51 and growing long for the second time. As far as I can see, it's your head, your hair. If it makes you feel good about yourself, theres nothing wrong with that!

It's never too late for anybody here :) I started at 42 with some grey and I felt like I shouldn't grow out cause I was way past my younger school years :)
But these crazy guys here convinced me otherwise so now I return the favor! GO for it :)

The questions to ask yourself are:
Do you really desire to have LONG HAIR? Has this been a dream
of yours for a while or a long time?
Does the thought of watching your hair get longer month by month excite you?
Are you willing to endure the "awkward stage" (which can get
VERY BAD for some guys) to have long hair?
If someone told you to get a haircut, could you resist or would
you just give in?
Is wanting to be a Longhair something that comes from deep
within you or is it just something you'd "like to try out"?
You might want to consider answering some of these questions
before beginning your Long Hair Journey. And though it is not
necessary to answer any of them (because you can change your
mind and cut your hair anytime), you still might want to do it,
just to get a better idea of what you REALLY want.
Good Luck!
There's a guy I see walking around my neighborhood sometimes with midback length hair that's almost totally grey. I have no idea when he started, I've never even talked to him; but he could have started 3 years ago, and it was probably totally grey then too.
I think there might be a couple guys who post here regularly that are almost totally grey, and were probably that shade (or close to it) at their last cut. I don't think you'd be totally alone.
In other words, go for it!
Please note the name! HA!
I am 60 with gray/white ratty brown, thin hair.....and loving it long. Lots of guys on this board from their 30's through 60's have varying shades of gray, white and salt/pepper. I think it looks sharp
Go for it !!

Ah, ratty brown! Haven't seen that one on the shelf recently.
This could open a whole new marketing line for Clairol!
I'll be turning 43 this year and I've been growing my hair for a year and six months and it has given me great joy and pleasure.
About to turn 48 this week, I think it is something that you should do man. Join in Let it grow and flow!

Never.
In fact I believe every man should grow his hair at least once in his life.
No go for it. I am 55 and my hair is down to my waist. Yes it is gray on top and brown as it gows down my back (like rings on a tree) but hey you only get one go around so do it.
And I'm still growing...
48 here, and I have a lot of grey hairs, although I use henna on my hair as my wife doesn't like grey hair on me. If she didn't like it long she would be out of luck! I've had longish hair since I was 15 and quite long since my 20s, but I don't see why it would be too late to start now.
I knew one guy who waited until he retired at age 70 before he grew his hair long. It was snow white when he started growing it, and he grew it long enough to get it all in a ponytail. I wouldn't wait that long, though. He's no longer with us, although at least he had long hair for a few years before he passed on. We only get one life (of course, if you're a buddhist you may disagree, LOL!) so make the most of it.
