With the exception of a couple of back trims, I have not had a "proper" haircut since Dec 04.
I powered thru the grunge period when my ears were half covered and I looked a real mess.
Now I can wear a high half tail and my bangs are about another month away from tuck behind the ear length.
I have gone out in public with a half tail. Im getting used to the idea of being seen with my hair up.
I can feel the back starting to fall on my shoulders. Its in that flip out phase and it looks a bit girlish. I will power thru that as well. I should have enough length in back to have a pony tail by Christmas. My family will freak a little when I come home for Christmas with a pony tail, but they have seen me with longer hair and for the most part, accepting what I am doing.
Good for you. Its hard to weather the "awkward stage" and you doing it.

Ah, wish I was my current age during the grunge period ,so many great bands! Keep on growing and don't give up. The aqward period is always the worst. The longer the lenght, the easier it is to style and keep away from your face. About looking girlish; don't worry about it. And I suppose for many narrow minded people long hair will always look "girlish" despite the lenght, color or how you style. If it becomes a bigger issue you could always grow a beard. I looked very girlish in earlier stages. If I wasn't wearing a full face covered beard during that time people would probably easy misstaking me for a girl. lol
