Well, this is sorta off-topic, but this is the best place that I could think of to ask about it. A few months ago I decided to try growing a beard, and I really like it. The problem is, it's starting to get too long. I don't think my beard is thick enough to look good when it is too short, and I'm worried that even the longest extension on a trimmer would make it look too thin. All the trimmers I have access to only go up to 1/4 inch or so. Do any of you guys know where I could find a trimmer with longer settings, say 1/2 to 3/4 inch?
One of the best places to ask about this would have been The Haircut Site. Anyway, a good beard trimmer to try is the Andis Ultra. It has an extendable guide that fits over the top of the cutting blades. It is battery operated and has ample power when batteries are fresh. This can be purchased at Sally Beauty Supply for under $30.00. Another similar beard trimmer is made by Norelco, which you can buy at any discount department store. I believe it is more expensive than the Andis Ultra. Check them both.
Are you aware that Victor has another web board devoted specifically to beards and mustaches? (http://the-light.com/beardnmoustache/board.cgi)
As someone with a fairly large beard (7" stretched, 3" or so relaxed and woolly) who finds it needs occasional trimming to prevent excessive raggedness and lopsidedness, I find that carefully used scissors are the best way to do the job. Beard trimmers would seem rather difficult if not impossible to control in this situation. Even with one in your size range, I believe scissors, aided by a comb, are the best way to go. It certainly is a lot easier to avoid accidentally buzzing away a big swath on your face with them.
Last night I had my first scissor-related nightmare... I was told that this would be some sort of milstone for my growth ;)
Whoa... I meant to post that as a new thread and have no idea how it ended up being a reply to this one.
