Good evening,
This is my first time posting, although, I have watched the board for some time. I have tried on several occasions to grow my hair out, but always had people telling me it looked better short. So, here is a current pic. I was in Europe on vacation for a month, so the pic is from Paris.
I haven't cut it since February.
You will look good with long hair. I think most of us must have gotten that from family and friends when starting out. These are people are used to seeing with short hair and are afraid of something different. BUT IT'S YOUR HEAD!! As time goes by they'll get over it.

Welcome "AverageGuy." What you have attained so far since Feb. looks great to me. As far as "what" other people have told you in the past about how your hair looks better short, this is a rather normal thing that most guys hear when growing-out their hair. However, when their hair becomes quite long and has past the Awkward Stage suddenly the comments are reversed and one usually receives all kinds of compliments! :-) "If" you yourself have always desired Long Hair forget other peoples comments. It is what YOU want that counts!

...doesn't look "average" to me!
Your hair texture and colour will look fantastic long. I also think it will enhance your tall, slender physique. As Justin says, you are doing this for yourself, so don't worry about comments from others. The journey to longhair is not only about the physical appearance, but has a great deal to do with one's inner self. Even an old guy like me has learned a great deal about myself through this experience and this board.
Hang around here and keep us posted, you will get plenty of encouragement.

To begin with; this is a decision ALL up to you. I think for most guys growing their hair long is something you have to be very sure about. Only a few percent of the total world male population grow it as long as to their shoulders and even less longer than that. Ofcource people will give you comments on your hair because you will be odd out of their perspective. And being odd, or even in some occasions being unique, is something you will always have to defend and protect. You should always do what You feel is right and if people in your enviroment are uncomfortable about it it's their problem, not yours. Despite of what many people may think, I think for most of us here it's not about trying be someone or something else just for the need for attention. Or fullfilling an special ideal. It's about being yourself and to fully allowing it. If being a longhair feels right to you than that's what you should go for.

Last time I cut my hair short was almost 20 years ago...
It is taken from the Eiffel Tower. Judging after the angle it might be the 1st platform, at about 100 m / 330 ft above ground. The buildings in the background are the Trocadero gardens, across the Seine from the tower.
