Hello!!
First off, this is a wonderful site!! When it comes time to fully grow my hair out, this site will come in very handy.
Also, I must say, to João David, you by far have the best hair (to me, no hurt feelings meant to anyone else) but wow, yours is great! How long your hair is in your two year update pictures is about what I'm hoping to do. :)
Now onto my question, I can't start growing my hair out for about another year (I am right now, but I'll have to get it cut soon) but that's another matter. I am wondering abouyt having long hair in like a professional field, like Real Estate? Is that acceptable? Because I'd love to really grow my hair out to about like João David's, but I'm really unsure as if it would hurt anything I try to do in a professional career. Is there anyone here who is in a professional career like that or knows someone who is that can offer insight on the subject?
I currently live in Las Vegas, but are currently planning a move to Southern California within the next few month's, I understand that like the market might make a difference in local customs which is why I'm saying that :)
Thank you for any input!!
Shane
There are ways to wear long hair that look more professional. More people in the business world seem to have long hair.
If you like long hair don't bother cutting it now. You have a good start already, just let it grow. There are many long hairs looking for real estate. You would probably have an advantage in getting their business with long hair yourself. Why wait a year. Look how long your hair will be in a year.
Shane,
For everyone who will be turned off my your long hair two will be more interested in you for it because it expresses you as a person and not a member of the herd.
Having said this, make sure your hair is clean, and orderly. This could be flowing loose if your hair lends itself to this sort of freedom, but for most of us it means tying it in a tail, or in my case, using a celtic clasp, putting it in upside down on my hair, turning it up, and clipping so my hair falls over thc clasp; brading it, or tying it neatly in a bun.
No one spending mondey wants to trust someone who is chaotic. But The agent who is efficient, hears the client, focuses the search on apprpriate properties, is polite and a good listner, will make a sale wehether they are bald or have hair down to their knees. The resistance you will find is an agent to hire you who conforms to the old social prejudcies, but do not assume tht all RE agents fall into this category. There are RE companies and brokers who dare not do what you do, but who enviously would like to have one agent they could send out with your presentation.
The world's a -changing. Let us not hold it back by conforming to what we think others expect.
Caledonian.
Thank you for the input!!
Scott: As for kind of growing it long now, and then cutting it. I don't want to, but I have to. See, my family is moving to Southern California and it well, cost's a lot to live there. So I'm going to have to get a job quickly and the only place where I can make good money to support my mother and brother (I'm 19) is Disneyland, and they won't let you have long hair. So I have to cut it, but when my mom gets on her feet (should take about a year) I am going to quit and start growing it again (I should know a couple monthes before I quit, so I'll just start then since it's not as bad at that point)
Caledonian: Oh, keeping my hair clean is not a problem! I have to at least get a shower everyday, I don't like messy hair, if I havn't had a shower, I don't go out into public. LoL!
I even keep like my desk very clean, a place for everything and everything in it's place is my motto.
You've seen João David's hair in his two year update? That's my goal. About that long in that style, which I really like and it looks very nice!
Thank you for your input on a long haired professional. I was most unsure about like wearing a suit and having long hair. But it's like living next to a ocean, just live. If someone doesn't like my hair, I'll give them a referral and kick them loose. :) Thanks again!!
It is too bad that the only place you can get a decent job is a place that restricts long hair. Have you been checking out anywhere else to work? It is a shame because if you like long hair you should be able to grow it. Sorry to hear about your mom.
Joao David's hair does look great. I would like my hair to look like his too. I have only been letting my hair grow since Spring so I have another 18 months to reach his length.
Yes, it is important to keep clean neat long hair. To care for it too. It looks so nice that way and encourages others to have long hair.
A long haired professional looks nice. Don't be afraid.
Yes, it down right sucks the only place I could get a job does, but I also have a plan there. See, I'll have to get a hair cut before I go into the casting office, but after I'm hired, I figure I can then find out the max length and at least let it grow to that.
Here are their guidelines:
"Cut above the ears and not touching the collar in the back. Must be one natural color. The style must be blocked and tapered. No bi-level cuts."
But well, I'll at least try to keep it as long as I can. I could look for job that would allow it, but moving down there, we need the security the being able to make rent and everything. So, after my mom starts her new career (I don't see what there is to be sorry about, but thank you :) but after that, I will be going into business with my mom (I'll be her assistant, keeping appts and printing out where she needs to go) and with that, I shouldn't have a problem with growing my hair out.
I always take good care of myself, so I'm worried about the extra time my hair will take, It's a task I'd love to have. LoL!
Good luck on growing yours out!!
Do you or anyone know where like a list of companyies are that hire long haired men, is there even such a list?
Thanks for all your help!!
