Before I left for school this morning, I decided to try a new look for myself. After I got out of the shower, I applied some gel on my wet hair and I combed it through making it slick. Then, with my hair still wet, I tied it with an elastic. Am I doing something bad for my hair?? Considering that it's wet, will there be any damage done?
Good question - I just recently tried putting my hair in a ponytail, since it's now long enough, and wasn't sure if I'd cause alot of damage if I did it wet.
How workable/damageabale is the hair when it's wet, as opposed to dry?
To be completely honest, I'm not sure.
When hair is wet, it stretches up to 10% more than when dry. This is why most hair experts will tell you not to brush it when wet, because you will stretch the ends out of shape, or break them off more readily. I often put my hair in a loose hairtie (scrunchy) when it is when, but usually not in a tight rubberband. If the band you use is tight enough, you could be stretching it beyond its dry capabilities and hurting it a lot.
However, I've found that usually, if you just put it up or pull it back using only your hands to gather up the hair (not brushing it back), there is less chance of stretching it too much.

Cool!
By the way, Barbara, (and anyone else who wears their hair different ways), I met a guy last year who had hair about as long as mine is now, and we talked about growing our hair, etc.
I noticed he had a neat style that'd be good for around the house and going out casually. He'd taken the hair from somewhere behind the bangs and pulled it back into a tail, leaving some hair parted across, hanging in the front, parted down the middle. Have you seen this style? I've tried it, and I can't seem to get it right.
Any ideas?
Also, when I part on the side, (which is almost always until just recently, I tried that trick I think Victor talked about, blowing your hair forward then brushing it back - big diff for the better!), or even in the middle, sometimes when it falls towards the face, you can see the hairline, (slightly receded), and it's embarrasing, at least in my own mind. As it gets longer, and the front matches the back, I figure it'll look better, (someone stated the longer it gets, the weight of the hair helps it stay back), do you think?
Should I not worry about it? I can't imagine how dweeby I'd look if I was wearing short styled hair and showing those areas off.
Glad this place and all of you are here!
