Hi guys - I used to read and post a little here, when I was a senior in HS (6 years ago). Anyway, I don't how much I'll post, but I'd like to get back into reading the group. I've been growing for 1 1/2 years now, no particular goal now or when I started. I guess I am interested in seeing how long it can get, and I would like to have waist-length hair at least once. I've attached a picture (just don't use it for a gallery or anything please).
Also, I had a couple questions -
What would cause fly-away/broken hairs? I have a lot of those, even though I'm really careful - I air-dry my hair, never brush or comb it (doesn't really need it - I just untangle it with my fingers when I need to), don't do anything to it besides wash it every couple days.
I was using vive anti-dandruff, but that made my hair really dry and too clean, so lately I've been using dove bar soap, which is better but can still make it a bit too clean. Any suggestions for shampoo/conditioner?
BTW in case you log IPs I use a proxy.
Thanks, Dave
Your hair looks great. We have the same hair type, and I also have broken off hairs. Hairs that are shorter, especially in the part. Guess it's normal.
Hey Welcome! you and your hair look great! Hope you enjoy your time here. Take care
Just playing with my digital camera...
I got a pretty good "Young Einstein" effect in the last one.

OK, done playing around.

Shorter and fly away hairs could be
- hairs which started more recntly and have not yet caught up with the rest
or
- broken hairs which have become damaged. A certain amount of damage is inevitable, but try to avoid damaging things like brushing/combing too hard, wearing too tight a ponytail band and taking it off roughly; fairly obvious stuff really, especially once you start to think the hair care way.
Good luck - waist length could take 3-5 years, depending on trims, speed of growth etc.
Hi Dave and welcome back first of all.Hope you stick around awhile and do keep the hair as I think it looks great!Waist length is definately a good goal as that is what I currently acheived and I just love it.Hoping that I can eek out some more length but only time will tell.
Anyway in response to your question I basically have the same problem.I shampoo and condition daily only because if I don't it starts to look oily near the scalp and lays too flat.I air dry my hair on generally figer comb if there are some bad tangles but otherwise use a wide tooth comb.Generally works well but I always wind up with some broken hairs no matter now careful I am.If its really humid out those pesky shorter hairs seem to have a mind of their own and kind of seek some strange directions.LOL.So I wouldn't get too worked up about the breakage as I just think its normal as I've had long hair over 20 yrs. and still maintain a full haed of hair!So enjoy the growth and hope you stick it out and get that waist length hair!!!!Take care and good luck.Mark
