Ugh I'm 19 and I've got about 15 white hairs. Is it better to pluck them out or cut them close to the base? My hair is about 4inches long and I do not want long hair with white streaks. I heard if you pluck them more will grow in its place. Is that a myth?
Yes, it is a myth. It comes from the fact that if you have long hair and pluck a white hair, by the time the new growth is visible again among all the darker hairs time will have passed and you'll have more grey hairs anyway. You would've had them whether you'd plucked them or not.
Is it better to pluck them out or cut them close to the base?"
Leave them alone. Did you know that every time you pluck a hair,
you are taking a risk that it may never grow back again, depending on how much
damage you do to the root.
Hairs on certain parts of the body are more sensitive to plucking than others. For instance, it
is relatively safe to puck beard hairs as they tend to be very tough, but eyebrow hairs
are extremely sensitive to plucking and some people have been known to lose their eyebrows entirely!
If I were you I'd leave those white hairs alone.
Good Luck!
if 15 hairs are causing you grief then they're not worth it.
Pull them out. I'm 40 and I have about 7-8 gray ones that I pull out whenever I notice them. The worry isn't worth it.

i just turned 18 and i have 1 white hair. i think its kinda cool, id say it would be better to not pull them out.
I just cut them close to the root. Now you cant even see them because I have thick hair.
James,
Do not pull your hair out, unless you are in total dispair about the direction of our country.
There are products like Claiarol "glaze luster," which provide some temporary color without amonia or peroxide, so when this color fades it does not leave your hair damaged nor bleached. There are other temporary colors. I noticed in India that lots of men use henna, for one could notice reddish threads among the generally black hair.
I am on the upward slope of 70 years and have a genetic defect resulting in almost no gray. My SO is only 55 and has full, silver hair down to his shoulders though I would never be able to get his permission to show a photo.
People vary. White hair(s) do not mean that you are aging prematurely. This is a natural variant among people, and I believe that most people admire "premature" gray hair. It makes you distinct
Can't you take this as a matter of pride? Develop some lines that you can use as jokes: "Every white hair represents a day I did somone else's work," or whatever.
If you are ever teased, say something like "It's an award, or a merit badge, for putting up with people like you."
These are my lines and not yours, but you are a unique human being. These white hairs are not going to slow you down, nor keep you from having fulfilling relationships.
My SO had mousy brown hair with a little gray 14 years ago when I met him. He once had long hair as a young man, and I encouraged him to let his hair get a little longer. I never would have asked him to let it grow, but he did, and his silver mane is now nothing less than dramatic, and I know that in part he let it grow for me. I like to explain that coping with me turned his hair silver.
I do not care about your orientation, but I can assure you that most women affirm men who have white, gray, or silver hair and this may just turn out to be a great advantage for you. But for your present transitional comfort, why not explore some of the temporary color products. Just make sure you avoid amonia and peroxide if you really want your hair to grow for they will damage your hair and you will have to cut that part off. I learned this from experience, and I will never use coloring products which radically change the structure of my hair.
Bluntly, if it were possible without damaging my hair, I would dye it silver. But since that is not possible I will accept my brown hair, blond when I was a boy, with a few gray threads.

I also had a few white hairs in my 20's (many more now that I'm 43). My wife at the time (ex now) said I should pluck them. I responded that men don't pluck grey hair. We're happy that it's still here, so we don't take the chance of insulting it and making it go away. Even if they turned pink and green, I wouldn't pluck them. So far it's worked. I have Quite a few grays, but still have thick hair that I've decided to let grow. I've seen hy head bald in Basic Training, and I feel that some heads should always have hair, even if you have to buy it.
My current wife isn't crazy about the length, but I had a long Mullet when we met, so she's not surprised I want it long again. This time, no mullet. It's just passed the "tickling the ears" stage. Not long enough for a ponytail yet, but I can sometimes get it to stay behind my ears.
Keep the white ones. They give your hair texture, personality, and shine. I just consider it Nature's way of giving you some "bling"!
In these days, when highlighting is acceptable for men, why not enjoy the natural highlighting you have......
....beside, "White-Tails" are cool ! HA!

Yeah, white hairs rule. I'm eighteen now and I have three or four silvery hairs just behind my left ear. My hair goes a bit past my shoulders now so every now and then if I glance left I can see a white hair poking out amongst the normal (brown) ones.
So don't cut yours (or pluck them), because like others have said, white streaks look cool.
