I was just at the pool today. I come back and do a quick search on chlorine effects on hair and find out its really bad for it and causes breakage. So does that mean I shouldn't go in the pool anymore? The swim today was my first time there but now I'm very hesitant to go back.
If you won't stay for hours in the pool and if you are washing your hair with clear water immediately each time after swimming, the risk of damaging your hair will be minimated :o)
Exactly. Women put all sorts of garbage in their hair and it ends up being fine. I doubt a swim here or there will do much. What's the point of having cool hair if you can't go anywhere with it for fear of it being destroyed? It won't. ;)
It is damaging to hair - it certainly makes hair dry and brittle and I've known people with blond hair end up with a green/blue tint to it from swimming a lot! If you intend to swim regularly and often I'd suggest you get wear a swimming cap but if you only go occasionally you can get away with shampooing and conditioning in the shower afterwards.
Some pools are beginning to get away from the chlorinated chemicals and going to a salt system, which is much better. Check and see if there are any pools in your area with a salt system for clarification.
Yes if the pool contains chlorine and you want good hairs ... just dont go close to water.
I swim a lot. If you soak your hair first (like the little sign says - Take a Shower Before Entering the Pool :) ) but seriously, if you soak your hair in fresh water first it will absorb that first and less chlorine will be absorbed. Then rinse and wash it soon after your swim.I wear a cap sometimes but it ends up falling off or worse yet pinching and breaking my hair getting it on and off. Also, they sell a shampoo designed to wash out chlorine. I've used it but don't remember where I bought it. Bruce
