How much biotin does everyone take? is all it does is aid in growth?
Well Chris, I have checked into this and it appears there is not too much data on any side effects from taking Biotin. Taking as much as 2500 mcg's per day has caused no problems.
Don't forget, Biotin is produced naturally in your intestines. All you want to do is supplement that source. If your body is Biotin deficient, you'll see results. If your body produces a sufficient amount of Biotin on it's own, you may not see any significant improvement in hair growth.

What no one has really been able to answer for me is if biotin makes healthier hair. I have very very thick hair, meaning I have more hairs per square inch than most people. As a result my hair is very dry and frizzy, the girl who cut my hair said its because there isn't enough nutrients for all those hairs. Perhaps biotin is the main nutrient I am missing? In other words, I don't want to take Biotin just to grow crappy hair twice as fast. If it can help make my hair decent I would like to try it, and in that case, the faster growth would be a plus. Anybody with not so great hair using Biotin?

hahhaha lol, that was funny... anyways is biotin one of the main nutirents in growing hair? what exactly is its function?
There is no published level at which biotin becomes a danger. Excess biotin is simply passed out when you pee. If you take a 1mg tab a day, you'll be sure that you'll be taking enough to be useful (although this usefulness is still not proven) and yet you can be equally sure that the excess is still small enough a quanitty for your body to dispose of without problems
......and how does it work?
I get mine from GNC. It helps your body metabolize food better and, at the same time, helps your hair get better nutrition so it grows a bit quicker. I've noticed that I've gone from .75" a month to about 1.6" a month just by going on it and taking 2-3 times the normal dosage.

Due to the active discussions about Biotin, I've visited GNC today. According to their official company pamphlets, it said that Biotin helps metabolism and aids in relieving stress. But it did not explicitly say that it improves hair quality or enhance hair growth.
Upon asking the main branch, they said the fact that it helps metabolism, it actually aids the body in absorbing necessary nutrients for the hair, thus improving hair quality.
But it does not enhance hair growth. For that matter, they suggested that a chinese herb known as "shou wu" (dunno what's the English translation) actually does that. They had a very costly package which consists of Biotin, shou wu and multivitamins, which they claim, many users swear by the amazing improvement in hair quality and doubling in the speed of hair growth. It costs S$99 (about US$40-50). I found it too costly and did not try it out, I stuck to Biotin 600.
I'll try the Biotin out and see what it gives me.
You can inquire about "shou wu" and order it under the name Shen Min by going to the website www.Biotechcorp.com
