I dreamt I got sick of my hair and cut it all off.
Someone hug me.
hehe yes definetaly a nightmare! :P and weird too, why would you dream something like that.. anyways I once dreamt someone came into my room at night at cut it all off while i was sleeping, when i woke up (in my dream) I saw all my hair in the floor, and when I looked at the mirror I had the worst haircut ever imagined lol, it was all short and sort of spikey .. just really bad cut :P
but I probably dreamt about that because my sister was allways threatening me that she would cut it one night (kidding of course). heh
Meh... I don't put any stock into interpretting dreams. I prefer thinking of them as the subconcious's opportunity to really mess with your head - the mind's holodeck if you will. Sometimes the program just goes a little too wonky.
So that's why I keep dreaming about Shirlock Holms mysteries. :)
And throw in Dixon Hill mysteries while you are at it too.

Dude, that nightmare came true for me. My girlfriend was angry about something I didn't really do. She cut off my shoulder length hair when I was sleeping at her dorm- and took my clothes! I had to walk back to my dorm bald and in my longjohns. I am wearing a wig until my hair grows back.
Hi Phil,
sorry about what happened to you - that's horrible! I hope you have filed assault charges against your ex-girlfriend, and I do hope that this got her a criminal record.
Please tell us how this could happen so that we can get an idea when people need to watch out for this kind of assault.
Did you post before? There was a similar story a few months ago. Were you the one who was handed his hair in a plastic bag when you got back to the dorm?
How come you were so deeply asleep? Did she actually shave your head without you waking up? How did you find out that it was her? Were there witnesses? Could your drinks at a party have been spiked? What state and when did this happen? Were there similar behavior patterns of your ex-girlfriend before? Was she particularly jealous, or had she threatened to cut your hair before?
Sorry about the questions - we do get these stories from time to time, and, without meaning to add insult to injury in your case, some of them are not true.
Maybe you weren't ready to post details the last time, because the trauma was too fresh - maybe you can fill us in now?
Thanks,
Hans-Uwe
P.S. If you want, you can have all our support when you go through the "awkward stage" again in about a year - just keep us posted.
I am a really deep sleeper- she used scissors and cut most of it off. She admitted it. Can you imagine having to walk home only in apair of longjohns? All my buddies really got a good laugh. Do you think wearing a wig is stupid? Thanks for the support!
Hi Phil,
I don't think wearing a wig is stupid - I'd do it until the re-grown hair makes it impractical or uncomfortable - you are obviously a born longhair. I know you must feel incredibly violated. How long ago was it? Did you file charges? By all means, do so before this falls under the statute of limitation. Did anyone take photos with your hair butchered? Are there witnesses for a court trial?
What else can be said about this bitch, and the situation? - and, looking back, were there any warning signs thgat she would do something outrageous? - What state or country do you live in, and, is that college environment basically longhair-friendly?
I know, this may take about 1 1/2 to 2 years to grow back, and, of course, you have all our support. Hope you do heal well.
Hans-Uwe
simple solution. go to her dorm when shes sleeping, pick the lock cut her hair. or just kill her.
Yea but girls get more protection by the law. You touch a girl its sexual harrasment, you say the wrong thing to them, its sexual harrasment. You so much as look at them in the wrong way, its sexual harrasment. They have so much power these days its scary.
Oh man, now isn't THAT the truth... they are sad, weak creatures.

Eeek...that's a bad one. I always hate the dreams about getting my hair cut against my will, but I think this kind of dream is even worse. We have been talking about dreams in my psychology class. There are many theories, but I will talk about the two distinct ones. The physiological theory says that dreams are nothing more than the brain functioning, and there is no hidden meaning in dreams. Another theory, pouplarized by Sigmund Freud, says that dreams are the pathway to the unconscious, and many reveal desires that we were not aware we had. So, maybe deep down you kind of get tired of taking care of your hair sometimes. Even if that is correct, it is no big deal. I am sure that most longhaired guys get tired of taking care of their hair every once in a while. Judging by how long and well-kept your hair is, you probably care enough about it to override any cutting desires you might have. So, don't sweat it. Although it is cliche I must add that "It was just a dream."
Yup, I agree with that one.
I've always felt that Freud had an unhealthy obsession with peoples' Mothers.
Sure, I experience mild bouts of frustration, but I've never felt compelled to cut it.
Oh, yeah. Absolutely.
No worries.
I am thankful that we can always count on the Germans to bring in the reference to grand opera, as in those arias composed by Stills, Crosby and Nash.
However, Detergentman polarizes dream theory and research. It is true that St. Sigmon, thought all elements of a dream were interpretable, while modern research compares dreams to de-fragging a hard drive. All those bits of peripheral attention and fragmented observation that have no utility get dumpped while the brain transfers short term to long term memory -- a process that we sometimes call learning.
Nevertheless, none of these dream elements come from outer space, but from our own experience.
Let's also add another observation from St. Sigmon. Namely that good students tend to have dreams of failure in examinations. My particular version of that is dreaming that I have been into a college semester for 6 weeks and have forgotten to go to the math class, and I wake up in a panic that I will be kicked out of school. This dream still occurs occasional even though I earned a PhD in 1975, which included 6 hours of applied mathematics, otherwise known as statistics. Fact, I did fail trig. the first time I took it. In retrospect, I realize the grad student who was teaching it was incompetent. Not till later in life did I realize that it was being badly taught if I could not learn it.
So, in this view, dreams that we cut or that our hair is being cut, are a process of working through the cultural and social pressures which we have faced, but over which we have triumphed.

Yuk Strange Nightmare
Hi Matt,
I think it's just a dream - but sometimes, people do get sick of their hair when they are unwell or depressed. Possibly, this dream was something like the experience Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young sung about ("I almost cut my hair").
I hope and pray you are doing well, and that you may be spared depression and disease. If you are going through a cold or something like that, then, I hope you are getting well soon.
Hugs to you & all the best,
Hans-Uwe
P.S. For reference, here's the lyrics of the song
"Almost Cut My Hair" by Crosby Stills Nash & Young
Almost cut my hair, it happened just the other day.
It's getting' kinda long, I coulda said it wasn't in my way.
But I didn't and I wonder why, I feel like letting my freak flag fly,
cause I feel like I owe it to someone.
Must be because I had the flu' for Christmas and I'm not feeling up to par.
It increases my paranoia, like looking at my mirror and seeing a police car.
But I'm not giving in an inch to fear cause I missed myself this year.
I feel like I owe it to someone.
When I finally get myself together, I'm going to get down in that sunny southern weather.
And I find a place inside to laugh, separate the wheat from the chaff.
I feel like I owe it to someone.
I once dreamt that i was returning to my family in Puerto Rico with a buzz cut.
When i got there, I overheard my cousins' talk of them not liking th fact that I cut my hair.
Then, i pulled off the buzz cut "wig" to reveal awesome flowing long hair.
Weird dream....but i guess it came out cool in the end.

From one dream-state to another, here's a big e-hug from California...
Oddly enough, last night I also dreampt that I showed up at work with a shaggy buzz-cut (in other words, I had at least an inch of hair left). Even more oddly, I was pretty calm about it all. In fact, in a disgusting sort of way, it almost looked "cute" on me! The thoughts that went through my mind while trying to process this new-found discovery (while still dreaming) were that now that I had a shaggy buzz-cut, I should at least take a pic of it, so I could document the growth back to long again, --- just like our new member, Gman, did in his recent post just below yours. Weird. I guess that's what I get for checking the hyperboard right before going to bed last night (lol)!
I doubt I would be quite THAT calm as in my dream last night, if in real-life I woke up to shaggy buzz-cut, --- expecially considering that I currently have over 6 years of growth since my devastatingly short haircut happened in Y2K!
But anyway, Nyghtfall, hope you enjoy the big group hug from all of us, --- and even better yet... that you woke up to your hair still attached to your head, as well as on the pillow!

Sorry you had this nightmare. What a bummer. I can well imagine how upsetting something like this was.
Dreams like this are worth it because you appreciate your hair when you wake up. It happened to me a few times during the awkward stage. I also had a dream in which I had REALLY big hair. It was cool!
It was actually a dream that made me want to grow my hair again--I had really long hair back in 1999 which I cut off. I had short hair for 4 years after which I had the dream that my hair was long again. I started growing my hair back after that dream.
