I hadn't seen the White and Nerdy video, so I researched it a bit. Thankfully, it turns out it was just a wig. I wouldn't have expected Al to have cut his hair for such a transient purpose, and when you think about it, if you put your hair in a fairly tight bun, the wig becomes a lot easier to go on, particularly if it has any spikes or bumps to fit the bun under.
Speaking of which, it's so easy to fool people about your hair length with just a backward baseball cap. I once bunned my hair and put a cap on backwards, so the projecting part (does it have a name? lol, interesting thought....) covered the bun. I had scarcely walked out of the dorm building when someone whispered that "that dude cut his hair," their notion confirmed when they couldn't see any hair on the side or back of my head. I just smiled to myself. It gives you a silly sense of omnipotence, of controlling their trivial little minds like a cosmic chess player shuffling wooden pawns to their niches.
Nowadays, such a stunt might not work (though it was never a stunt in the first place), but it's an interesting potentiality nontheless. Why long hair should be frowned upon as unprofessional simply for how it looks is beyond me when you consider how short hair-like it can be transformed into. It truly is a taught mentality.
Peace
That's good, I liked his hair as well... bunches of tight little curls!
By the way, the 'projecting part' is called the 'bill' of the cap. At least, that's what I've always heard it called. ^^
OH YES! lol, of course. I've definitely heard that before. It's funny how little things totally elude you sometimes, isn't it? (Well, it might not be so funny on exam day, except to various sadistic teachers I know.)
It's also interesting how deeply metaphor and symbolism have been interwoven into language, to the extent of being so commonplace that we forget what we're really saying. A duck's bill of a cap's projection, a "bolt" of lightning (I think), and so on. O/T, but interesting.
Where I come from (England), it's a peak, not a bill.
I don't know how many times I've watched that video on youtube (jeez I'm a nerd), but I'm amazed every time by the wig "trick." lol If you think back though, he's done it for almost all of his videos and if you look closely when he's wearing the cap you can see the back of his hair protruding out.
