Another month, another set of pics. Kept it simple this time, just the sides (as you can make out the back from the first pic). I cannot do ANYTHING with my hair at the moment - at first I thought I'd shrug off the awkward stage, but now I too am experiencing the misery - strands go in my eyes, the usual. I can get it past my ears if I comb it straight down when it's wet (I was going to post a pic of that, but I couldn't). The CURLS persist. Somebody please tell me the back will straighten itself out. ;_;

I actually have exactly the same hair you have (same "hair style"), and I also have this annoying bang problem.
The thing is it's part of the awkward phase, and there's not much you can do. I personnaly comb my bangs slightly backwards with a little water, and it helps them from getting into my eyes.
As for the back hair, yes, it will straighten itself when it gets longer, so no worries.
You can do what nisha said, but personnally, I prefer to keep it "messy".
It's up to you ;), and hang in there!! In a few months only this will be history.

For the front, I'd try the suggested alice band or a bandana or a baseball hat (until it's long enough), and the back will indeed straighten itself out as the other hair gets longer. It'll remain curly until the upper layers have caught up with the lower layers. If you really hate it, you could try a "bottom of the back only" 1-inch trim in a few months, but do be careful about whom you trust. I think it looks cool even now at the "awkward" stage and the curls in the back, so, there is no urgent need for action.
Keep it up and keep it growing - it'll get better and better!

Hey Dude ... nice hair looks pretty much like mine ... but you are ahead by about 2 months ... and your face looks right like my brother's ... and that guy is also growing out hairs like us ... I am now thinking if you and him are same ... oh wait i am confused :)
