OK,
I'm committed until Xmas 2008 to grow this my manlocks -- and I plan on getting there....but how much longer before this 'fro starts to go down, rather than just out?
Usually, my hair isn't this 'fro-ish, but I did dry pic it today to give my scalp some air. (It felt good, too.) As a result, though, you can see the hugeness of the hair (especially compared with my somewhat still wet hair from my avatar, taken only a couple weeks prior.
Any timelines? I am currently at about 5 1/2 months. (See earlier post for a before picture.)
I am also curious to see whether you think I should pic it out or not. (I think not, for most occassions.)
Great message board.
Shawn
the first one is november 23 2004, thats at one year 1 month of growth. pretty bad, all puffy and curling up but a large part of that was my poor hair care.
the second one is the same month but i had properly conditioned and stopped shampooing so frequently, that played a big part in the less puffyness.
the final picture is may 2005, 19 months of growth. thats how long it took for my hair to finally stop puffing and to lay flat. but whats most important to remember is that it has a lot to do with properly condioning, and NOT shampooing. your hair is curly too and what worked for me was: conditioning every day or every other day using only water and a moisturizing conditioner. once or twice a week wash with shampoo; i never use real shampoo but a shampoo/conditioner made for moisturizing and hydrating.
what i didnt do my first time growing it out, but i AM going to do this time around is slick my hair back with gel or mousse untill its long enough to tie in a tail or has enough weight to hold itself down. that may be an option for you too.
wow...incredible kirk-hammett-like hair :))
Well, I hope in another 6 or 7 months mine'll be that long.
Already all over this conditioning regularly and avoiding the shampoo. (Thanks to the great advice available here.)
Thank you so much. I hav etold my ever-patient wife that if it isn't satisfactory by Xmas 2008 (leaving me at about 30 months of growth), then I'd cut it back to 'normal'. (though I hope it looks good and/or she is so used to it that she considers long hair 'normal' -- she wouldn't approve of my shaving my face clean now, though she once told me never to grow a beard)....ah women....just do what you're gonna do and be gently strong about it and they will get over any initial resistance (and, I think, appreciate your personal integrity/conviction -- am I right ladies?).
Well of course its going to look like its growing out if you pick it :D
It really depends on how curly your hair is and if you mess with it or not. If you don't comb it, it will probably be bigger. I would say at least ten months for gravity to kick in.
