im nearing the 3 month without a cut, will be entering the awkward stage soon but this time im not going to deal with the hair in the face the poofyness etc. for the duration i plan to slick my hair back and keep the side burns nicely trimmed.
im just wondering what i should look out for when choosing a gel or mousse or any product. which things are harmfull on the hair and which may be beneficial. any recommendation on which ones will not cause the hair harm and at the same time may even moisturize? in the past ive used garnier in that green bottle mousse. for gel i used this pink gel with the letters LA on it.. dont know the rest. anyway thanks in advance.
Aloe vera gels are pretty good. Walmart usually carries them
I used Loreal's Melting Gel during my awkward phase. I'm not sure how good it is for hair but mine seemed to come out it without too much damage.
I liked it because it held pretty well without making my hair feel like concrete. I also found that once it dried, I could brush my hair back and it would stay in place okay even then.
Well I think your hair is of a different type than mine. Even though my hair can be quite curly at times, it is above all fine, whereas yours if I remember correctly was quite thick?
That said, I like the segal or adrian paul look very much, yet I don't like putting gunk through my hair.
The solution (again, for ME) is to use an excellent leave-in-conditioner 'Redken-Extreme, Anti-Snap, leave-in-treatment for distressed hair'.
In the case of any hair falling down when in the wind etc, i just run my hands back over my hair and it goes back into place-yet it doesn't make it look greasy, and f course it is a conditioner after all (much better than fudge etc!)
Hello, again Helfast, and thanks for your help re: my curiosity on curly hair timelimes...
I have found a few products that make the hair flexible and yet less frizzy.
Infusium 3-minute conditioning treatment
- sounds crazy, but a little of this (either on its own or with a bit of styling paste like Redkin or even Suave) keeps the hair moist, a little weighed-down (enough to keep fly-aways at a minimum), and you could still touch your hair without it creaking.
Alternately, I sometimes use anti-frizz serums, though these seem to need washing out after a day or so and are expensive. I don't use this everyday.
Another product that works well on its own is 'Marc Anthony - Curls' (Yellow container with a pump on top). This requires very little and it smells nice. Leaves curls tightly curled and bouncy.
Last recommendation tonight is Suave's styling pomade. Cheap. Smells nice. Works (though after a couple applications, feels like it needs washing.)
Best bet is the conditioner itself. It just rinses out with water and it conditions to boot!

PS None of these products assisted me in the huge, poofy picked out hair as seen in earlier posting. ;)
