Hi,
I am a 24 year old from Alaska. After reading several of the posts
concerning men and roller-sets I have decided to possiably try one
but am very nervous. What I would like to do is go to a Salon and
tell them that I want the most femenine style that they can do for
my hair. I am not a crossdresser or anything like that. I just think
that it would be kind of fun to try something diffrent. My hair is
all one length about 5 inches below my shoulders, blonde and somewhat
thick. What would a Salon think about a man coming in and wanting a
feminine style? Should I just tell them how I feel or let them do what
they want? Any suggestions would be greatly apreciated. Thanks.
Carly:
GO FOR IT! You'll certainly be glad you did after you're through. Maybe you should do some research to find a stylist who will treat you in a positive way, and who would work to see that your wishes are fulfilled. It would also be a good idea to buy a magazine of hairstyles so that you could show your stylist the kind of hairstyle that you are considering. I myself used to wear my hair for years midback but recently my girlfriend convinced me to change. I now wear a longish Gillian Anderson BOB. I love it.

Hi,
I have my hair length about 30 cm below the shoulders and I'm regulary
going to the hair salon and get a perm/coloring.
I wear my hair loose and have it very curled and I have as well dyed it dark red/brown.
I do not wear my hair in a ponytail, I mostly have it loose and only
hold it up with clips.
To your question, in what way the salon would think about a man coming in and asking for a feminine hairstyle ?
In my case I at the first time only entred a female salon and asked for a perm. It was OK and no strange comments from the staff.
Later I called to make appointment and when I then requested perm I was told that the female section, only, has time available.
In the female section, the femaile stylist, suggested me to have my hair curly, and later colored.
When once got to the salon, dressed in pink (pants and jumper) and with red nailpolish, she suggested that I grow my hair longer(at that time less than shoulder) and as well pierce my ears and a face make up. She also asked why I did not weare skirt or dress?
Today I have my hair long and curly and colored, wear several Big earrings, nail polish and make-up regulary thanks to an understanding hairdresser.
As well as skirths and dresses.
Hi,
I have had my hair permed several times, I found that it is easier to go to one of those "chain" locations like Fantastic Sams or Great Clips or Regis, I really like Regis the best, as their stylists are experianced, not grads of a hair school just yesterday. Just call, make the appointment (Tell them you are male), when you get there, the gal will ask what you want, and then go wild!!! (Regis had pictures, and 95% of them were female pictures!)
Good luck!! you will love the looks & comments!!

I have thicker auburn-brown hair (also 24! in Seattle), down to the small of my back when it is straight. I have just gotten it permed about 2 months ago (I have had it done about half a dozen times, since I was 16).
The perm leaves it wavy if I brush it out wet, and more curly if I let it dry natural. I even blow-dry it out at times, which of course gives it a very full, curly look (which I wear loose).
I don't cross-dress, but have a feminine-guy look (I weigh 145, 5'8")
with both ears double pierced (larger hoops), sometimes dark painted nails (the new guy colors!)
My email added.
Hi all,
I'm thinking about getting a perm too and this is exactly what I'd like -
either wavy or curly depending on how I style it. I'll have to see how
that will work on my hair, which is very fine. Do you have pictures? I'm
collecting pictures of possible styles. (The hoop earrings sound good too!)
I have some questions about perms (for you or anyone else):
1) With a perm as you describe, how would a wet set work? One of the reasons
I'd like a perm is to have more body for sets.
2) I also like teased bouffant 60s styles -- how would those work with a perm?
3) I like to braid my hair when it's damp for a crimped/pouffy effect. Again,
how would that work with a perm.
Any suggestions appreciated -- thanks.
Love -- Morgaine
I wear it down a lot, and a lot and with the front pulled back into a ponytail, briad or bun (my favorite) high on the back of by head. I also do the full hair bun with a scrunchie once in a while. I haven't done any setting on my own, but I have braided it wet quite often. I comes out very full with the perm, which I really like, but tends to flatten back down after about 6 hours.
The way my hair is now, I can make it fuller using the blow dryer and a brush (I also have a curling iron for the bangs).
I had some pictures, but the PC went down recently and I lost them (don't buy Acer!) I have to re-scan them back. E-mail me if you get time.
