Hey Guys
I finally feel like a longhair now instead of a wannabe :)
After 16 months and my hair recently seeming to grow like crazy.
front pic
Your hair suits you absolutely fantastic.
Long hair is just perfect for you Chris, you look very cool indeed, and lovely house too!
oh my.
Looking good dude. You could pass off as a teenager in that pic ;)
Wow you are way too kind Sean, its amazing what a little blinding sun can do to the eyes :)
Thank you immensely for the compliment, you made my day lol
Here's why I finally feel like a longhiar :) I can finally do a tail!
Haha Its about time I was wondering when it was going to actually happen lol
Axel
>>>YEAH!<<<
ponytail from back
I just tried this for the first time about a half hour ago, my first tail!
Chris
It suits you well sir !!!! Looks great CONGRATULATIONS I know you have been wanting to tie in back in a tail for quite awhile now see you achieved it in the end Im Pleased for you mate !1
Zig
Obviously you've waited a while before tailing it for the first time, but by the looks of that tail it was sure worth it eh?!
Just great and I may even prefer the ponytail look on you, are you going to use it more now that you can do it comfortably?
And on that note, did you find it awkward tailing it?
I remember my very first attempts as one very difficult and uncoordinated!
Thanks Dean!
Hard to believe as it seems for the longest time I couldn't tail it because I still had too much of the shortest hair that wouldn't fit in the tail. I wanted to wait til I could fit in all in in an honest tail lol. Yes it really took this long! This was as soon as I could do it (I guess I was a perfectionist lol)
I haven't figured when I will wear it like that but it seems a good alternative to have. I am sure it will be odd, going out in such a new style. I will have to let you guys know how that goes when I do.
I had know idea how to do a tail before and just asked my girlfriend who had long hair for years but cut it much shorter so she had just the merest bob of a tail to show me with. But that was sufficient for the demo :) I have done it only a couple of times so it will take a while to be comfortable doing it without thinking I am sure! I still make many false starts for each good one.
The 'first tail' moment is one I'll always remember - it's such a milestone. I bet this made you feel good!
Yes it did feel good because I have been wanting to do it for a long time, but also it felt odd too lol, like being someone else.
It is so different from the way I was before, the kind of person who doesn't like to stand out from the crowd much. Well I will need to go out and about in it to see what I really think about it and what kind of reactions I get too :) Will let you all know how that goes.
Wow! You were a longhair way before this, whether you knew it or not. Looking good!
--Rick
I suppose so but we all have to draw the line somewhere I suppose :) I definitely appreciate all of your support along the way, hair and otherwise Rick, thanks
Wow Chris! That is astounding progress if there ever was and looks spectacular! (Your hair looks to be of the easier type to work with which is always a lucky plus.) Great.............! :-)
Well, sure looks as if you are just about in the drivers seat now and will reap the benefits of having long hair that can really be enjoyed.
BRAVO!
Thanks Justin for all of your compliments and kindness along the way! I have definitely been using you as my inspiration for the "no trims to even out the hair" model :)
I sure hope it works as well for me as it does for you!
I forgot the most important thing of all... thanks all of you guys for making it possible :) I couldn't have done it without you!
That sounds like you just won an emmy or something! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHH! Seriously, the pictures are most excellent, splendiferous! You were a real longhair all along, it was just that you chose not to maifest physically the inner desire! The picture out in the natural setting is excellent as well.
And too, I got the e-mail, thanks for that!
Bragi
Looks really nice Chris. You've made some really nice progress recently. Definately look like a long hair!
Vince
Thank you very much Vince, it does feel like a milestone crossed :)
It looks good, and, to make matters better, you have a relaxed contented look that really states that you're happy with what your look (and being, maybe) is becoming. Well done!
Thanks for the compliment! Its funny I said the same thing about contented looks in describing Robert's picture earlier today lol
Wow! That is some great length 16 months? Good for you!
How great is it to feel your hair on your shoulders? I am looking forward to that with great anticipation!
Shawn (Mr. Crow)
PS. I think that the white streak in front is really sharp!
Thanks Shawn!
I do enjoy this long hair but it is still odd at times too. Not totally natural yet by a long shot. Just starting to notice on my back a bit, thats a new sensation now. I am getting there!
Growing like crazy indeed! I can't get over the difference. Your hair looks so healthy too. Have you determined a final goal?
Thanks so much Jason for the compliments :)
Well since a tail was my first goal I think my second goal is to have enough hair to cover my shoulders, that would look really cool to me :)
I have no idea of a final goal yet, I will undoubtedly just keep growing for a long while yet. I cannot see growing past waist length but who knows? I hear this craziness is near impossible to stop once you start ;)
Congratulations on your hair! It looks great both normal and in a ponytail. I have very staight and fine hair also, so I'm hoping mine will look as good as yours when I reach that length.
Thank you very much Pablo! Well while some people here can brag about ponytail thickness it seems I won't ever be one of those lol! As for your hair I am sure it will look great cause that's the very same post I used to make to others here :)
Best of luck to both us!
Hey, who's the new guy? :)
I told you, everytime I see you it looks longer. You're right--in the past couple months it seems like it really took off. Congratulations on the tail. That's the biggest milestone.
Hey thanks Steve, the odd thing I noticed as far as fast growth is that for a long time, maybe the first 10 months or so I was taking some supplements that were supposed to be good for hair, vitamins and such. But when I stopped taking them is when my hair really started growing faster.
I have this terrible feeling I not only wasted my money on these things but they actually slowed my normal growth by a ridiculous amount. See what I get for not listening to the common wisdom here of not taking special supplements and just letting hair grow naturally? I could just kick myself ..aagh!
I would be so much farther ahead now!
The product I tried and might have slowed my growth was called Hair Formula 37 and I got it off the net. I can't be sure thats what slowed my growth but something is different lately and thats what I stopped taking. Then my hair growth took off!
Thats what I get for not listening to the wisdom of the board (sigh)
Hi Chris just checked out all the new pics you posted and what can I say as you've come a long way in a relatively shot time. You are definately a longhair natural as it looks great with your facial features. Not knowing what you looked like in short hair I'd still say you made the right choice in growing it long. Can only imagine how fantastic it will look mid back or longer!Anyway thanks for the update and hope to catch you on the IM sometime again.Mark
Thanks a lot Mark! I had short hair (which was hair just above the ears and bangs about eyebrow length) which was just totally unremarkable. Perfect for somebody who didn't choose to stand out too much!
Hey Chris, your hair looks fantastic, just gorgeous. It appears to grow an inch per month. If your hair continues to grow that fast, it should reach your waist in about 2 years.
Absalom
Thanks so much Scott, it is due to the great people we have here that helped me get this far! As for calculating hair growth, well see my post back to Steve, there was something odd going on. So don't start your calculations till now lol
Wow, Chris! You're definitely making some awesome progress there! Unfortunately my hair isn't as straight as yours, but what's a guy to do? Oh well.
Anyway, great update and look forward to future ones as well!
-James
Thanks so much James.
Hey, I would love to have some wave to my hair for a bit of interest. Mine grows fast but other people's hair is always more interesting lol! Enjoy your hair, it will be awesome :)
very neat chris!
i like all the pics and a tail definately suits you
pretty dam good first tail
good luck with further growing!
Thanks a lot!
I am really glad to have made it this far
Your transition is also quite astounding! You look quite mature now!
Best of luck to both of us :)
16 MONTHS!!! Please email me some of your DNA.
Well I didn't start from a buzzcut or anything, more a typical short men's cut. And only lately has it started to grow so fast. Now I am curious how fast it does grow lol
Oh, there's no question. You are there! Looks really great!
Robert
Thanks for the compliment Robert, I also really enjoyed your recently posted pics too, you look really cool in those. Great trip pics too
Chris,
Your hair looks great! I am glad you now feel like a long hair. :-) What is your goal now that you can tail it?
Mike
Thanks Mike
Now you all can stop hearing me complain about not having long enough hair (oh maybe I can't promise that :) )
As for a goal I want to have hair spilling all over my shoulders, thats as far as I can see for now :)
I've been growing for 21 months, and yours looks as long, if not longer than mine.
Nicely done!
Thank you Luke
How long was yours when you started growing? I did not start from a buzzcut or anything close so that might explain the difference. I do seem to have a fastish growth rate (when I let it happen, check out the "hair supplements worse than nothing" reply I made earlier)
Avoid the supplement Hair Formula 37 (thats what I tried that may have slowed my growth) I might be wrong about it but I am taking no chances lol
You look very blissful in this photo. Congrats.
Thanks a lot Revan, I guess I was pleased that my hair was finally coming along as it should have all along!
You have great hair Chris, and i like the grey touch you have, wish my hair would be a little straighter too:)
Thanks for the compliments!
I always wanted a bit of some body or wave or something cause my hair would be more interesting with it. Funny how some people want what they don't have.
Hey I didn't get to post about your damaged hair post, I think you should not cut your air back but just take care of what you have now and let nature replace the damaged hair. You should be no worse off doing that than starting over from scratch.
Hey Chris,
the lenght of your hair for 16 months is fantastic! Like Absalom says, think of how long it could be in 2 years time. Keep growing it!!
Neil
Thanks a lot Neil, I am really looking forward to growing my hair now that I have stopped screwing with the growth rate (see posts below)
BTW your hair is really cool looking, I wish I had such interesting texture too :)
Chris!!!
How do you make your hair grow that FAST! My goodness =O Your hair at 16 months is just as long as mine is now at two years =)
You're soo lucky =) Your hair is if a great quality, and the greying colour is looking so pretty =) I believe you will reach your goal, whatever it is =)
And I think your tail looks awesome =) It was really worth to wait for it wasn't it =)
Thank's for the fantastic pictures =) I hope everything is ok with you =)
See ya! And good luck!
Thank you so much Joao!
My hair has grown fast lately but it was not always so (see my hair supplement reply to SteveNoVa's comment). Also I started with a typical hair cut, not a buzzcut or a shaved head which is common here.
How long was yours when you started Joao?
I am not sure what my asolute goal is but I kind of want the kind of hair that spills over my shoulders now :) I am glad I waited with patience this long to do the tail right. I will have to take it out in public and see what happens (haven't done that yet)
Thanks again Joao for all your advice and ecouragement lately. Hope your classes are going well so far. :)
Astounding progress, looks fabulous! I've been growing mine for 2.5 years now and it's not that long! (My hair grows SO slowly now--maybe because I'm 53) How long was your hair when you started growing it?
Thanks a lot for the compliments David!
I am 43 now and when I started growing I had a typical mens haircut, right above the ears, bangs about eyebrow level. But I would have been much farther along if i hadnt screwed up my growth (see my reply about hair supplements below in this thread)
Congratulations!
Good Luck!
Thanks a lot for the compliment Luckskind, and also thanks for the terrific artwork for the site too! (never thanked you properly earlier on )
Thanks Ken for the compliments, and thanks for being one of the many posters who first encouraged me when I got here as a newbie lol! You really made the difference in me feeling like I belonged here and keeping on track. That is what this board is all about and I have tried to emulate you in that respect :)
Nice hair man!
Your comment just gave me an idea. In martial arts like Karate and Tae Kwon Do, a first dan black belt signifies having achieved full-fledged status in the art, after which you continue training and earn 2nd, 3rd, 4th up to 7th dan black belt rankings.
Perhaps we should have dans for long hairs as well and you are perhaps a first or second dan longhair.
Charles
Perhaps, we
That whole belt-level to signify the passage of various hair milestones sounds like fun idea to me. "Hey, I'm just about at orange belt (i.e. I'm starting to have to hook my hair over my ears) now."
Whatever the standards would be, it would be cool.
Who else has some ideas for what the milestones could be and how to avoid cheating to one's self. (a barely-nub sized curl sticking out of a ponytail elastic might, for me, be considered hair long enough for a pony tail....Chris had it right with his patient waiting for a 'proper' tail).
Any ideas?
What is the standard of Blackbelt? What are the differing levels of Blackbelt after that?
Is white belt (beginning student) simply giving one's commitment to growing? Is it avoiding a barber for 3 months?
A very interesting topic to me, though I'd love to see one of the other, more experienced hairgrowers step up as the Hair Sensai.
- Shawn (Mr. Crow) Crowell
Well as martial arts apparently is as much about how you grow on the inside as well as how your skills increase objectively, perhaps hair growing is similar in that not all the growth is on your scalp :)
A most interesting discussion here :)
Thanks Charles!
Well we do have "hair gods" here, so we can call them sensei now too lol
I have heard the term dan before as well, not being a student of martial arts myself though. Sounds like you are, what discipline and what level are you if so?
Hi Chris,
great hair, great pony tail! Yes, you got there, and in 1-2 years, it's going to look even better...
Congratulations, and all the best!
Hans-Uwe
Great progress.
It has grown like crazy over the last few months, keep it up.
I am almost at 22 months and yours looks as long as mine is now. Pony tail looks good wear it with pride.
Thanks a lot Aussie Guy, I didnt start out with real short hair though so thats probably why. How long was your hair when you started growing out?
YEAH Chris !!
You are looking Mighty Regal there, my friend !! Fantastic !
Thanks for Sharing
Walter White Tail
Wow Walter you sure are mighty generous with the compliments :)
Thank you so much , all these comments are giving me a swelled head lol, I will need more hair now!
Can't add to what's already been said, so just congrats on "getting there"!
Hey thanks a bunch George!
I can never can get enough encouragement no matter how its worded lol
That is the best thing about this site is how we all stick together :)
Looks fantastic Chris - You're definitely a longhair now!
- Oren
Thanks so much Oren, you have always been there encouraging me from my first post here. Thats what this board is all about :)
I dont know if I would have kept at this for so long otherwise, thanks again :)
Wow Chris, great to see your update. Your hair looks tremendous and really healthy. The ponytail looks absolutely brilliant, I really hope mine comes out as good as yours (one day). Best regards, Dave
Thanks Dave for the compliments! I am sure your hair will look great, actually I though I remember you said you already had long hair before so I guess you know whats coming :) You started out MUCH shorter than I did Dave, I admire your patience :)
Great progress to both of us!
Yes! Your hair looks fantastic, and you seem to be enjoying it alot by looking at your pictures. :) Straight, very shiny and beatiful color shades. You could easily fit in as a character in a fantasy novel. It has some medevil wibes to it, I think. Keep up the good growth!
Hey thanks man! I really appreciate the compliment, I guess the unique gray shade helps me stand out. To think I used to not like it, I have learned to like it since everybody here did too lol
I am enjoying my hair more now than before, I switched the shampoo and conditioner I was using and it seems to be helping some. Now using new Pantene Ice Shine and I like it so far, my hair seemed to be so dry and flat before.
you have made amazing progress.......looking great.
asthepalacesburn
Thanks a lot man, I am really looking forward to seeing how much and how fast it does grow now that I am letting it grow naturally :)
Have you tried wearing some clips or maybe a pretty silk ribbon? ;0)
I love it.
To tell you the truth when I first mentioned to my stylist that I was thinking of growing my hair long, she brought up ponytails and my first reaction was like: no way ponytails are for girls! I felt that way for awhile and only when I started to notice longhairs in real life and seeing the progress pics here did I slowly change my mind until I couldn't wait for one.
I can't say I have been especially creative with my hair all my life, doubt thats likely to change now...
But a man's gotta draw the line somewhere lol :)
Just being tongue in cheek Chris, but as mentioned below you wear a ponytail very well indeed.
Been really busy this week so I haven't had a chance to reply until now!
This is a really great update Chris, your hair looks fantastic as always. I like how all of your shots are taken in the sun, it makes your hair stand out!
You pulled the ponytail off very well too, it looks VERY cool with that shock of gray in the front.
Thanks so much Gylfi, I am sure hoping to get nice hair like you have now! I am aiming for that length now, after that who knows!
Perception caught up with reality! Congrats on your much desired milestone, Chris.
