So, I was googling for some other sites/pics on long hairs and came across this BBC news article about N Korea's insistence on its male citizens maintainging short hair.
The best line I saw was:
"It stressed the "negative effects" of long hair on "human intelligence development", noting that long hair "consumes a great deal of nutrition" and could thus rob the brain of energy.
Men should get a haircut every 15 days, it recommended."
Crazy, huh?

Hey thanks for providing that interesting article. I think that their conception about hair is ludicrous. nonetheless it might be true"(highly doubt it)"
Actually, we should say that it's possible.
However, probability dictates otherwise. One only has to read the posts from the majority of members on this board. Another is to examine intelligent women who may also have long hair. - Reinhart
That one has been posted on the board a few times earlier this year.
It's good you are keeping an eye out though.
And this same government has nuclear weapons? Now THAT is scary.
Robert
I think that should be the least of our concerns... if they start a nuclear war and they win.. imagine the kind of government the whole world would be under...
Oh come, come. Nobody has the guts to use that stuff, calm down, try wearing a clip or maybe an alice band. You'll see everyting gonna bee awright.
If a 9/11 terrorist types got nukes, they would have the guts to use it... what I am concerned with NK is that they are those type...
And you live next door.
As far as I've heard the test-bomb was an utter failure. It's been described as the smallest atomic bomb in history, so I don't think we need to worry just yet.
Yes, the very thought that North Korea poses an actual threat to anyone is laughable. I suspect that if there were really a threat present, Japan, and China especially, could handily deal with N. Korea. By sheer numbers alone, the Chinese could overwhelm the "Hermit Kingdom," and make Kim Il Jong wish he'd never heard of atomics. The country of North Korea is frequently on the verge of starvation, and the standard of living is not anywhere near that of South Korea. Their leaders have even perverted the ideals of Communism which on paper should have the people all happy and well fed. If you have ever seen satellite images of the Earth at night, you will notice that there are even no lights visible at night in N. Korea. It's a quite delicate regime that we will see succumb to changes within a few years I am betting. The spirit of human beings, no matter how oppressed, can never be crushed. The people of the country inevitably will demand changes eventually.
Lots of new like we commonly hear is nothing more than jingoistic propaganda to keep everyone distracted from things right in front of them, that if they were to actually see, would have far more concern for than most would have you beleive. So much of what makes the news is hype and sensationalism to incite fear and lead opinion one way or the other. It's an old game perfected in our modern age of instantaneous news.
I am willing to bet even Taiwan could probably take on North Korea... and if the USA does invade NK I bet no shots will be fired, cause chances are people will welcome them with open arms. NK people isn't anything like Iraqi's... however it is those suicidal bombers with nukes that concerns me... even a 1 kiloton nuke can do tons of damage if set off in the right place! I heard that the leader of NK has some kind of mental problem and that is very unsettling.
Of course he's got a mental problem. He's probably a psychopath.
Psychopaths are interesting in that they are actually cognizant that what they are doing is wrong. But, they do it anyways because the results benefit them. In short, they are aware of what they're doing and are not guided by conscience. That's the difference between a pscyhopath and, say, a psychotic. This is also why psychopaths can be very dangerous people if they are seriously deviant to society, especially if they are in or are trying to secure a position of power.
Another example of a psychopath according to an FBI study: Eric Harris; mastermind of the Columbine Massacre.
And, as an aside since I brought up Columbine, for those who like Marylin Manson, here's something you can use if you get into a particular argument. If somebody tries to convince you that Marylin Manson's music will cause another Columbine, shoot back with the fact that Harris and Klebold actually HATED Marylin Manson and never liked listening to that kind of music to begin with. - Reinhart
If they start a nuclear war, they'd most likely lose in short time.
If they hit Japan or South Korea (allies to the U.S.), the U.S. may likely retaliate with tactical nuclear missile strikes aimed at eliminating the leadership. (Tactical nukes are smaller yield than what we normally associate with nuclear weapons, such as ICBM MIRVs, although certain effects such as fallout will still be present, but in smaller scale.) It may also be possible that China could also retaliate against the North as well, fearing a strike on China from the North in light of such an attack against Japan or South Korea.
If they were to hit China, the U.S. may just simply sit back and let China deal with them.
But, this is all speculative. In addition, what this all boils down to is a small twerp of a leader (if you could even call him a leader) throwing a tantrum in a pitifully conceited effort to look tough. Kim Jong Il blows more hot air than an industrial blast furnace. High stakes bullying has been his modus operandi ever since he came to power with the goal of having the other side back down and acquiesce to his demands or, at the very least, arrive at a mutually agreed-upon compromise.
However, the Bush Administration is refusing direct talks ... but for good reason. The North Koreans supposedly arrived at a deal with the Clinton Administration to halt nuclear development beyond peaceful applications. However, they admitted to nuclear experimentation of such a fashion as to allow development of weapons-grade materials that was in violation with that deal so it is entirely understandable why President Bush feels that direct talks may not be effective in this case. What's to say that the North Koreans won't violate the deal with Bush and continue with developing technologies which open the way towards nuclear arms just as they admitted they did in contempt with the Clinton deal? The possibility of a nuclear-armed North Korea coming to existence under the noses of the international community is just too high of a risk for direct talks with a bunch of admitted liars. (Granted, this may come as a bit of a contradiction considering what others feel about Bush. But, then again, what administration, regardless of political affiliation, has ever been completely truthful to their constituency?)
His bark is worse than his bite. But, if he pushes hard enough (and he's REALLY pushing pretty darn hard right now), somebody may try to bite back because, quite frankly, there comes a time where others may tire of taking his crap any longer.
Right now, the bite is going to be in the way of sanctions. But, I fear, that will not be enough. Kim Jong Il is power-hungry and paranoid. The only viable way to deal with the situation is to remove Kim Jong Il from leadership, replacing him with someone who will actually help the North Korean people. Easier said than done, though. Particularly since North Koreans in general are said to be a highly brainwashed group, despite the starvation and misery their government has brought on them while their leadership sits above their people luxuriously gorged.
Very unfortunate as it is, you cannot be rational with the irrational. Kim is of similar spirit to other infamous dictators including Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, and Saddam Hussein. They cannot be bargained or appeased since they have a single-minded goal that they will pursue with psychopathic zeal. - Reinhart
Actually, the central core issue is that long haired men are likely independent thinkers. The North Korean leadership does not want independent thinkers of any ilk, so no long haired men allowed in that society.
