Sorry to say that my first long hair journey ended two months ago. In about 7 months I had grown near shoulder length hair (I have fast growing, thick hair), and I enjoyed it for the most part, except when it was windy, since my hair could get pretty frizzy. Anyways, in late July my dad and I decided to take a week off or jobs and go camping. I decided that since we were in a heat wave, and I was suffering, might as well cut it short and start anew. ( I plan on having a yearly cycle of growing it for a year, which is just a bit longer than the length I love, and the getting it cut, and starting over.) Anyways, I go to Supercuts, and I tell the lady short on the sides, and long on top, long enough to for me to spike like I used to. I even brought in a picture of what I looked like before. However, living in California where most of the barbers shave the heads of Mexican hip-hop wannabies, the so-called stylist simply shaved (almost to the skin) from my sideburn to the top of my head. Now, I had no choice but either let her shave my head completely, or look like a retard with a large patch of hair missing. Needlees to say I was pissed! So when she's done, she actually asks for the money! I told her that I was gogin to sue unless this buthcering was free! So then I walked out when she went to get the manager. For a couple weeks I looked like Mr.Clean with peach fuzz on the top of my head. Fortunately, I went back to college about a month later. What is cool is I have a normal style now, that is really healthy and straight since I know how to care for my hair now. And only two months later, my hair is already creeping over my ears by about 1/4 an inch. But I am still pissed. I actually felt like crying after it happened, but then again its only hair, and I know that if she had cut it normally, I wouldn't have been pissed. From now on when I get my annual cut, I'm asking for a scissor cut, until they reach a length where I feel they can safely work with a razor. Now I know most of you will think I'm lame for only wanting my hair to grow for a year, but I'm the type of guy that enjoys my hair to be a medium-length, and I enjoy the growing process over having a goal of say waist-long hair. But I'm glad to say that I know know I enjoy long hair, as well as short hair, and I like knowing that I can half short-shaggy hair for about 4-5 months, and medium length hair for the rest. Which allows for a different style throughout the year, over most dudes who have the same short-style for years.
Thats terrible, I'm sorry to hear that but am pleased to hear that you are positive about future growth.
I would never cut my hair for a heatwave (they only last around 15 minutes in UK anyway!), or a wedding, or anything really, but to have someone take your hair away from you must be most upsetting.
My fear is that when I do need a cut I don't know anyone around here that I can trust or knows how to cut mens long hair - maybe I just won't ever get it cut and just dipose of damaged ends myself.
Anyway, good luck in your journey.
Be kinda neat to be able to pull the ends around in front to see and trim them yourself, wouldn't it! I am really getting impatient to get to that point myself.
Looks like we're at about the same point in our journey. Keep it up!
