So basically, I'm asking for any techniques or strategies to keeping my hair flat. Not straight, but flat, my hair is actually mostly straight / kinda wavy. But, like when it's wet it just lies so flat then when it dries it seems kinda poofy and all over the place. I love my hair and can easily get the desired effect from a straightener but daily use of one is damaging to my hair, or so I've been told :P
I wash my hair usually every 2-3 days so maybe just straighten it once it dries and then it would be fine for a couple days?
Any tips / replies are appreciated, I know some of you other guys must have this same sorta problem. Sorry no pics, I don't have a digital camera and didn't want to spend the extra few cents to send them from my phone :(
hey there. i think i might be able to help you. i have thick wavy hair as well. what i do is the following: shampoo/condition one day then the next day i dont even wash it with water.(ie.monday yes tuesday no wednesday yes thursday no) when i get out of the shower i squeeze the excess water out of my hair. afterwards i comb it back. make sure to use a wide tooth comb. then let it air dry as it is slicked back and once it dries up it will look something like this: BTW i use garnier fructis sleek and shine. try using moisturizing shampoos and conditioners

Hi Christopher,
yes, your hair looks quite great, and, your face, too, spells "Lots more hair belongs here" - so, keep it growing forever!

i find the best way is to tie it back in a ponytail with a satin scrunchee then put 2 more satin scrunchees a little further apart, this keeps it nice and straight, any loose bits i just put some hair grips in, the best shampoo and conditioner i find is loreal elvive for long hair its in pink bottles
It would help if you told us how long your hair is. There are different methods for different lengths of hair.
A few inches past my shoulders, about midback.
Gee, I almost forgot to check to see if you answered me : ) glad I did. okay, first of course if you are using a blow dryer (u probably aren't) quit it because they add to the poofiness. For your length, you are probably pretty close to the length needed for gravity to take over but you still have the problem where a few places want to flick up. When hair is about 6 inches long this sucks because the flick is about 3 inches i.e. half and doesn't look good. when hair is at least 12 inches the flick part is less and less a % of the whole and the extent to which it looks lame decreases. Here's what has worked for me at this point (this is going to seem pretty strange but it works). Get a number of small paper clips, the type that are a closed C with handles on them to pry them open. They're usually black and hold a 1/4 inch (5 or 6 mm) stack of papers. Down at the ends of the clumps that flick up, put a clip on each one. Do this after you're done drying off from the shower, your hair is a bit damp from blotting it and combed out or whatever you do before letting it air dry. Leave the clips on until your hair is completely dry. They're just enough weight to force your hair to hang down and dry straight but not so much weight that the pull on it.
The part of this that's kind of annoying is that you can't go out and do things right away with all these clips because let's face it, they do look kind of weird, but they work. depending on how wavy/thick your hair is you may need bigger clips/smaller ones--you'll have to play around with it but the concept is an easy way to fasten a light weight to heighten the affect of gravity.
Hi. I use this product you can get at Wal-Mart for like 3 dollars. IT is called Sunsilk Anti Poof. Works great....
