I just bought tickets for their December 9th show.
Has anyone seen them live? Some bands are amazing live like Metallica while others don't sound nearly as good as their studio music. I'm curious how In Flames sounds live.
I actually don't like much of their new album but really like most of their older stuff mostly notably The Jester Race. I'm hoping they don't just play the new material in concert.
So, if anyone's seen them in concert, please advise. Thanks.
I would say it depends how lond they have been around.
Most of the time that a band doesn't sound as good live is because of all the editing done in the studio makes it sound better, but bands before the year of 1990, before pro tools should sound just about as good live as studio. I mean if you listen to pink floyd live and pink floyd studio their isn't THAT much of a difference. So if they are before 1990 they they should be good to go. Their could be technical difficulties that could mess them up to though, if one instrument is louder than the other ect.
Metallica is an amazing band btw RIP Cliff Burton. Hetfield blew his voice about 14 years ago and hasn't been as good since imo. They still rock though.
Its funny that you mention metallica. Did you know that in flames covered a METALLICA song called `Eye Of The Beholder``. You can hear it on ``The Four Horsemen - A Tribute To Metallica`` album. IN FLAMES is an excellent band. They are one of the pioneers of the melodic death metal sound. To answer your question. Yes they are very good live. good is not the word! more like: Brutal, Extreme, Insane etc.. They seldomly miss a note and the singer (Anders Fridén) sounds incredibly good live. Also, I noticed you have some lovely hair. Beware at an IN FLAMES concert. There will be some serious headbanging, moshing, and chaos. Tie it up in a bun or do something to protect it because IT WILL GET DAMAGED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They used to be good live until they switched to playing directly through the PA now there kind of meh. And they barely playing anything pre reroute to remain live you might get lucky and hear pinball map, coony and lunar strain or moonshield thats about it though mostly material from the last three albums.
I havn't seen them live but if i did i would hope they play songs from whoracle.
I saw them in 05. They put on a good show, but not one of my favorites. I'm going to see Blind Guardian in December, however. Now that is something to look forward to.
I saw them this summer at the Hultsfred festival in Sweden and they absolutly rocked! And I'm not exaggerating appointing them to be the best live act I've seen so far. Strapping young lad was nearly as good but In flames, wow! Such amazing precenense on the stage. And the songs seemed to have been written merely just for headbanging and moshpitting for along with a couple of thousand other people. They sound alot like on their records, only so much better. Even newer songs from the Soundtrack to your escape and Rerout to remain albums, which didn't appeal so much to me (allthough I like their latest) sounded just as great.
I prefer myself the older albums also, such as the Whoracle, and things got even better when they embellished the night with Episode 666 :). If they are nearly as good as when I saw them you won't be dissapointed.
One note though. yes, I am a big fan of their music :)
I can take or leave In Flames and I've never really been taken by their material. I'm going to see Emperor on 28th and I'm really looking forward to see the band as they have not played for a while.
PI.
Hey man, I haven't seen them personally... but one of my friends is obsessed with them, and actually got to sing "bullet ride" on stage with them (while Anders just stepped off to the side). I should send you the link (if I can find it) of my buddy on stage with them.
Where is this concert??
I'm going to see Decapitated, Hypocrisy, Suffocation, and Fear Factory at the Palladium on November 17. If you like technical death metal, this is THE show to see... 3 legendary death metal bands, and of course the well known Fear Factory! Let me know if you decide to go.

It's also at the palladium. I noticed the show you're going to and was thinking of going. I'm not too familiar with those bands (I have a couple Fear Factory songs) but I might check out some of their songs.
I'll definitely let you know..
Hi Jason, saw them with Motorhead, a couple of years back now, and yeah they rocked, I was impressed, but I have read that many of their fans were dissappointed with the change of direction from Death Metal to nu-metal. I guess I like their new sound!!
I am completely obsessed with In Flames lol. Ever Since i heard their song Trigger I haven't stopped listening to them. I own their entire discography plus their DVD. Unfortunately though, i've never seen them live, but i will next time they come to Oregon. From what I saw on the DVD they are amazing live, they didn't mess up once on the whole thing and they had a lot of energy on stage. You should have a lot of fun at the concert.
