Good evening, fellows,
All this talk (and the photos!) of half-tails has got me wondering, "How are they made?". I've tried fiddling with my mane to get it into a half-tail, and the results have been, well, "less than stellar". ;-)
Any hints/tips/tricks to fill in a terminal-length bloke who has had exactly three hairstyles in the past 20 years (down, "full" pony, and low-braided (with many thanks to my dear wife on that last count!))?
Cheers.
I'm not sure what a half tail is but from the looks of the photos you take your hair at each side, above your ears and pull it back to the centre of your head and secure it. But i may be wrong....
Half-tails, in my experience, can be a tricky mess to fix, so I seldom wear one, but here's how I do them:
Take your thumbs and, starting at your temples just above your ears, comb straight back around the back of your head, hooking a couple of relatively thing locks of hair over your thumbs as you comb back. Then, using whichever hand you normally hold your hair with when fashioning a ponytail, grab both locks and tie them together with a small hair tie.
The trickiest part for me in tying one of these is avoiding breaking some of the stray hairs that often end up trapped when looping the tie. Pulling the tie out at the end of the day is always a mildly painful experience accompanied by the distinct sound of several strands of trapped hair breaking.
I hope you have better luck.
I have the same problem that Nyghtfall has with breakage, tangles, etc so I don't do a half-tail. But I've really gotten into a half-tail braid. There's nowhere near as much breakage since it's only the ends that are tied off. This pic was my first attempt; I've become much more proficient since. And for some reason when I wear the half-tail braid, my hair looks longer than it does if I'm just wearing it loose!! Obviously just an optical illusion, but several people have commented on it.
