Hi my name is Chris, I am from Michigan. I have been reading the posts here for about 3 months and just thought that I would introduce myself, I am 48 years old, married with a 22 year old daughter in college, I am a machinist.
I really like this board, it is well laid out and has a lot of nice regular people that know a lot about taking care of long hair, I have learned a lot so far.
I have considered myself a "hippy" since the early 70's, my wife does not care for my longer hair although when we met it was long and she did not seem to mind. I usually just let it grow to shoulder length then when it became unmanagable would cut it to just above the ears, a haircut every 4 months (it did save me a lot of money).. :)
I just got sick of my wife and boss with thier snide remarkes and just told them that I will do exactly as I damn well please with my hair! I always cut my hair short for job interviews, but after being hired just went back to my regular growing phase. One more inch on the bangs and I will be out of the awkward stage, something that allways hindered my true objective of having longhair, to be me.
Thanks for this site and all of the nice people that post here with great advice. I hope the pictures work.
Chris

Hi
Chris
Welcome to the MHLL site
First off Im in the same boat to as my wife doesnt like my long hair either & I dont cut it for NO ONE you need to do what makes you happy as you can not please everyone !
Frizzies is a common problem when you have long hair especially growing it long to some decent conditioners can reduce frizzness like frutis conditioner can, also you might have some split ends that may need taking of !

Welcome aboard, Chris. Stick around, because this Hyperboard is filled with
some of the nicest people!
Nice pics. Congratulations!
Thanks Luckskind for the warm welcome.. :)
YOUR HAIR LOOKS GOOD MIND LOOKED LIKE THAT IN THE 80'S. KEEP GROWIN, THE LONGER IT GETS THE EASIER IT IS TO TAKE CARE OF
Thanks, The rough part is almost over....
Great to have you aboard, Chipster!
Great to hear you are committing to growing your hair to the length now where it will feel like 'you'. (I always say that if someone wants to get me to do something, they need to either tell me either a) how incredibly good I am at something, or b) that I can not/should not/must not do it. It looks like after all the complaints and shouldn'ts you've heard, you are finally prepared to get it done.)
Your hair is a good length, though I think getting the bangs past the shoulders will be even better.
As far as conditioners go (for minimizing frizz), I am a huge fan of 'Infusium23, Anti-Frizz' 3-minute intensive treatment (which I use as a daily conditioner, a periodinc leave-in-treatment, and a de-frizzing substitute for more traditional styling products.)
hope to see your hair getting longer and longer as time goes by...

Yes, I really got tired of hearing peoples negative comments and the more I hear them the more determined it makes me want to grow it.I can almost get it all into a tail now, all I need is one more inch so that the sides wont fall out.. :)I will look up that Infusium23, Anti-Frizz and see if it will help. Thanks,
Chris

Hi, welcome, and hair looking great.
You know I read your post as "a 48 year old masochist", LOL!!
See you around.
LOL Well, I do have a tendancy to beat the machinery a bit.. :)
Later.

Hi Chris,
you do look perfect with long hair - good choice! With a short style, you'd just look like "Mr. Regular" - not that all the "regular guys" are bad, but, since you look really good with long hair, don't hide your good looks. I've found that long hair is NOT a hindrance at all in job interviews, and Michigan should not have that many "rednecks" in the hiring departments. Since your hairstyle does look highly presentable, I'd NOT cut it for any more interviews - and I think I do know what I'm talking about.
As far as the back goes, most of us would advise you to just grow it out. You can try either some pommade-type gel, or some jojoba oil, or some dimethicone/cyclomethicone-containing anti-frizz gel (a clear oily fluid with only 2-3 other ingredients at the most).
If you want to, you could get ONE "even-up trim" of 2" (not more) in, say, three months, but make absolutely sure you have a stylist whom you can trust - check with fellow longhairs first.
All the best, and, please do stick around!

Hi Hans, Thanks for the welcome, I have been at the same job for 13 years now but I am starting to be concerned with the job situation in MI. Hopefully I wont have to start looking for jobs soon. My boss is balding and that is why he hates my hair, but its not my problem, hair transplants? he can afford it.
Thanks,
Chris
Hi Chris,
you are right, balding bosses tend to get envious and to dislike long hair on their employees. I'd ignore it (as you do). In any case, it might be good to send out resumes and to practise interview skills even before the job situation might deteriorate.
In any case, best wishes, and, as I said, don't even consider haircuts for interviews. With my job experience (I'm beyond 40), I have found them unnecessary.
