Howdy
just wondering if a "high" ponytail is considered too feminine..and if not...who on this board has their hair in a high ponytail? Thanks!
Not feminine.I see many 'high tails, because the guys just can't wait until
they can make a regular tail.
I myself have in the past, Joao and a host of others have tried it and liked it. Never looked "feminine" to myself. (But all of this feminine talk can be so subjective to begin with.) ie: Long Hair on a Man looks Feminine. And yet, Mother Nature has deemed necessary that both men and women are suppose to have long hair. Society has a whole sets fashion trends while Nature sets what she considers necessary for survival and a perfect balance within everything on the face of the Earth. Nature is just too perfect. Society?
hmm...that's interesting..you know what?when my hair gets long enough I'll try it..and if I deem that it looks good on me...I would certainly have the balls to wear it out in public :)
it is cinch to wear it out that way.
1.) One likes it.
2.) One feels comfortable with it.
3.) Out the door one goes and doesn't even think anything about it.
4.) If anything, one tends to be proud of this accomplishment along their journey. (Results are now REALLY starting to show.)
Tell you what, guys, I don't know how you lot can stand wearing your ponies so low - I find it really uncomfortable and also my hair tangles really bad after a while which I put down to the contact between the hair close to the tie lying directly on the back. A higher tail is free to hang away from the head/body and stays put better - it affords a degree of "fall" if not tied too tightly whereas a low tail has nowhere to go when it begins to slip (except further down into a mess of tangles!) Being female I have no issues with it being feminine of course, so I can base my tail tying preferences on comfort and practicality (tangle reduction) as well as the look of it.
I highly recommend you all try a high tail round the house and see what you think. IMHO it doesn't look at all feminine on a guy.
Worn one, didn't really care what people made of it.
If anything, you'll get away with it in a business setting, as opposed to going in with your hair down, as hair tied back in a high ponytail is more restrained and you look professional.
A tidy pony tail, be it high or be it low, works very well in business - even at the most senior level, You will always get one crusty old fart that objects - when he has finished moaning about the man next to you with a shaven head.
Ignore them all.
Hair down can be problematical in business unless you are able to style and restrain it - in that event no problems either but the unkempt 'Jesus' look simply looks untidy.
No restrictions on age either - I am 55 just do it and don't waver.
President Justin makes some good points. Nature has taken its course but man (or woman) merely serves to complicate.
Fashion is one feature plain prejudice and narrow views of appropriateness or otherwise - often fostered by those who feel comfort in the military or are closet believe in the junior role of womnen etc.
We all live once so far as I know and we are all reasonably free so do whatver you think is right for you. Whilst I never wore nor would wear a half tail personally they look fine and are certainly not feminine. Well there we are - an opinion but no more than that and certainly not reason to even reflect so do it if you like them.
I've worn one a few times. Felt pretty cool, too. If you want a visual example of how one looks, check out the full-page ad for ibuypower.com on page 69 of this month's issue of Computer Gaming World.
I found this pic on the net...I've yet to see this kind of ponytail on a guy though...that's ok though...it's all good...I'm still gonna try it :P
That's a VERY high tail there! I think most folks consider one mid way between this and one tied at the nape of the neck to be high. I have only seen quite extreme looking guys wear a tail this high (notably those with dreads) and I think it offers a "tribal" look on a guy. As you say, it's all good!
I have had a high tail when working out in the summer, because at the time it was the only tail I could do.
Two of my favourite athletes have worn high tails during World Cup soccer matches. Ronaldinho from Brazil, and Camoranesi of Italy (who let his teammates cut his hair off after they won).
ilike a high ponytail, it looks really good
As the others have said, it's your life, your fleeting rush through the world - so why care about what some unprecedentedly asinine subhuman will think about your hairstyle? Wear your high ponytail with pride.
In the Caribbean, where I'm from, higher ponytails are very common in very many styles, from cornrows into high ponytails, high-tied dreadlocks, and ponytail puffs poofing out of the middle of the back of the head. Most of these guys are in the awkward stage and have very curly, often afro-forming hair, so they try to tie it back as early as possible, which means as high as possible. No one really cares, and medium-height ponytails and buns are common even after one's hair has far surpassed the need to tie it there.
Peace
