Well, I had about 30 minutes between classes earlier, and I decided to go to the on campus cafe for a quick meal. I am in line and, I could tell that the lady serving the food didn't really look at me. She just kind of glanced, and said "What can I get you, ma'am?" Afterwards, she looked up and realized that I was a guy, and she instantly aplogized. Of course, I just laughed it off. I guess in that short little glance, she only saw my hair (which is starting to brush my shoulders) and the pink shirt I happen to be wearing today haha..This kind of thing would piss a lot of guys off, but I just look at it as a sign that my hair is getting a little bit of length to it.
I was at some traditional markets and the guys keep saying, "what do you need, lady?"
I always smile to myself when this happens - its a good feeling even if the person making the comment should actually look a bit closer rather than offer what is clearly a hollow greeting and behaving like an automaton.
Similar thing happened to me last weekend, it doesn't bother me either, just look on the bright side, you have long hair.
The single greatest affirmation a guy wanting to grow long hair can receive, with regard to how much progress he's making, is to be mistaken for a woman. It not only makes for a funny situation, but a great ice breaker.
Grats, and well done.
LMAO! I've gotten that a couple times the best one though was when I was walking to my girlfriends, a guy wolf-whistled at me out of a car full of guys, coming from behind me. When the car past me these guys looked back and burst out laughing at their mate, i found it hilarious that a guy had fallen into that mistake infront of his mates. Hehehe : )
Exactly the same thing happened to me in a chip shop. Some girl tried to push in front of me (which I didn't mind) but the woman behind the counter pointed at me and said "This girls next". I just smiled when she realised her mistake and turned red!
It is the sterotype: long hair = girls, short hair=boys.
(Which is why some guys grow their hair long......)
Stupid sterotype, though, since long hair on men is a word-wide historical norm. Look at the Sihks. Look at Beethoven's mane. Alas, we're lovers of the manlocks are still the minority and still face forms of harassment and discrimination.
Cheers.

Excellent sign of progress! Happens more than you think to plenty of guys. hehehe
i have had similar xperiences as well. apart from being mistaken for a girl, i have been asked by so many ppl about my ethnicity. i am indian by ethnicity, and most ppl mistake me for a native american or an australian aboriginal!
I have been mistaken for a lesbian when i am making out at various parties with a girl.
My friend was also mistaken for a woman one time, hehhe.
