Lately my mind has been preoccupied with my split ends. I have only been growing my hair for 10 months and already have splits!! Should i get a trim or just wait till it gets "LONG" and then trim. Any advice and tips are appreciated. Thank you in advance :)
christopher.
Trimming split ends does nothing to promote the growth of hair. If you want your hair to look neat and clean, trim them. Otherwise, leave them alone.
I'm also wondering if it's really necessary to cut off the split ends.
How many actually do that here?
Hi guys,
Nyghtfall is pretty much right about split ends - its best not to leave it too long though - I ended up with splits an inch or so up my hair after 4 years of no cuts/trims!. I do take off the split ends now if I'm not doing much, like when i'm listening to music. I use those tiny pairs of nail trimming scissors so i cant accidentally cut too much hair off if i slip. Also nails and hair are made of the same stuff, so logic would say that those kind of scissors would be quite good for the job. I stop trimming either when I cant find any more split ends, or more likely, when I get bored of it : )

Split-Ends are more apt to give you severe snags, Knots and tangled problems which can lead (while in process)of damage to other hairs while trying to untangle when your hair is longer. But:
Best thing to do now, even at your point is to find someone to target ONLY the hairs with the splits and cut just above the split using "sharp" sissors.
Best of luck to you.
agreed, When I was in class, I had some split ends that I wanted to get rid of, I thought the scissors were sharp enough to cut some, but it didn't even cut it, it just damaged it, so i got some sharper scissors, so yeah make sure u have sharp scissors.
Thanks for all the helpful tips guys! I am going to have my girl cousin carefully snip the splits with some razor sharp scissors. I thought about the trims but, I am skeptical when it comes down to confiding in a hair dresser. Aside from being skeptical, Trimming will only prolong the growth rate. Once again, Thank you all very much for the advice and SUPPORT!!!!! It is deeply appreciated.

Hi Christopher,
You could either search out individual hairs and cut off just that millimeter, or you try some dimethicone/cyclomethicone gel (a clear oily fluid with almost no other ingredients) which is sold as "anti-frizz gel" or "anti-split-ends fluid".
Probably, the best is to invest some time and to target individual hairs and to cut off only that fraction of an inch that is split, and to use that oil to prevent other split ends from happening. That way, you'll be o.k. even if you miss some split ends, as the oil seems to stop them from getting worse and from drying out more - in my own experience.
No need to take risk with hairdressers to get a trim or a "trim".
Good luck, and happy growth!
