Hello all!
I am about to cut my hair at the same lengh for several reasons.
My hair is very damaged on the end and it is very messy when i wake up (and i eventually go to school with... :-P) so i decided to cut all at the same lengh. I thik i'll cut it all at the lengh of my bangs to make my hair in the back start over...
Do you thing it is a good idea?

Thanks for all responses!
Hey, if you are sure you can handle losing the length then why not? It'll give you a new look for a while and get rid of the dry ends.
On the other hand, I think it looks cool from the front and the different lengths at the back aren't majorly bad - it's flicking out a bit on those pics which I think is probably due to pony tail kink, but with a bit of extra conditioning at the ends and not tying it back I think it would look really nice all the way round - it's getting to that "definitely long hair" stage and IMHO it would be a shame to take a step backwards at this pivotal moment. Guys seem to really rate having their hair the same length all the way round but in I believe different lengths add movement and interest when a guy is growing his hair out. And there's no guarantee that it would be neater just because it's shorter, lol!
Having said that, I would reiterate my first comment - if you feel you really want to have it cut, and believe it would make you happier in the long run, then of course you should go ahead. Perhaps observe the "two week rule", even though not considering going for a short style, just to consider carefully how you are feeling about your hair at this point in your life.
Hi Thomas,
I'd just have a trustworthy hair stylist trim the lower end of the hair IN THE BACK ONLY by 2-3 cm. If you state "2-3 cm", they usually cut it by about 5-6 cm instead.
But then, I'd go for anything like that ONLY if you are sure you want to loose that length in the back. Wait at least two weeks before you do anything, as others advised you already.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
Bonne chance,
Hans-Uwe
Truth be told, my mother advised me to cut it like that because she find out that my hair was very damaged on this point. When i put my hand in my hair, i find it somme bizarre at the end in the back...
Thanks for all answers!
Fellow
Salut, Thomas,
if your mother said that, I'd be sceptical - I'm sure your mother is the best mother in the world - but mothers are rarely objective as far as their sons' hair is concerned. Maybe the best thing is indeed the "search and destroy" method, i.e., if you can reach the ends in the back, inspect them in front of a mirror and cut off a few mm ONLY from those hair ends that are damaged. This may take one or two hours, but it's better than a butchered hair style.
Alternatively (or, in conjunction), you can try an "anti-split ends gel" or an "anti-frizz gel", i.e. a clear oily fluid containing dimethicone and cyclomethicone and not much else. It comes in 30 or 50 ml flasks and should cost about 5-8 Euros. In my experience, this stuff seems to "eliminate" almost completely split ends without cutting - they don't show any more, and these hairs don't rip further (I'm serious).
Judging from your pictures, your hair looks perfect as it is. Only if you yourself prefer to have your hair at one length in the back, and if you are willing to sacrifice length, then a trim may be better. In my humble opinion, there is a possibility in some families, that some mothers might need to avoid excessive involvement in their sons' life ;-)
Good luck, whatever you decide!
