Matt, you did the right thing. There are plenty of places out there that will hire men with long hair. Only by standing up for our rights will society become more tolerant and less constrictive of men's choices. Women can wear their hair any lngth or style they want. Men should be able to do so also. Hang in there! If you can't find another job in Maryland, come to California. The attitude is a lot better out here.
Well, I just spoke with my boss today on the phone. I called him and left a message on his ans machine yesterday, and finally today he call (oh well).
anyhow, he called and wanted to know if I wanted to reconsider. He said "Matt, you still have another day to cut your hair". But I told him that my hair meant alot to me, and that it was a personal thing. He said that I was a good worker...blah blah blah. But I told him that I could not reconsider, and that my hair meant alot to me.
I am happy to see that some areas of the country are more hair tolerant.
My boss is a retired Maryland State Police Trooper, and says he adpots his "NEW" dress code to what the State Police had. Funny thing is, The State Police allow more hair then what my boss does........GEESH !
Anyhow, I am glad I guit. I am looking forwards to the time off now. I have a few things I want to get done, and best of all, get my sleeping back in order since I am not working midnights anymore :-)

I'm so sorry that you've to go through all of this, but I really can't
believe that someone could loose his job just because of long hair in
USA.
Maybe TCMBUNNY is right about the suggestion for you to come to California.
When I visited GE Global Center in Louisville,KY last month, I saw
a lot of their guys have real long ponytail,and also in the Central Market (HEB) Austin,TX.
If you like you can come to Indonesia and working here in my store
along with my other long haired coworkers :-)
We never have any longhair problem in here.
Everyone makes choices in life, so you did the right thing dude !
