I just got about a foot wacked off of my hair today, bringing up to a couple of inches below my shoulders.....still long, no layering or anything fancy. I just get to a point where it seems TOO long. It starts feeling nasty and it seems impossible to manage.I know I'll always keep my hair longer but it is interesting to loose 12 inches in one haircut. I sorta feel like a traitor to the reason I grew it out (bucking society, blah, blah, blah), but it a good/bad rush to watch that much length getting sliced off. Especially when I am not accustomed to getting haircuts at all. There is definately some fear envolved. Once it was over, it felt great, like a new head of hair.
Has anyone else had similar sensations or dilemnas?
The first time I had to wack off my hair was for military reasons. I drunk half a bottle of schnapps before the cut. I didn't liked the result and missed the length for a time but life gave a lot of other problems I had to manage so I arranged myself with it.
After military I let it grow for 5 - 7 years during university studies (with some inch cut off interrupts), it goes to 40 - 50 cm length, maybe the limit determined by genetics. After that I cut it in view of society requests for job reasons. But another problem I saw that I had too few knowledge to manage it correctly. So at the end it didn't looked very nice and the loss doesn't hurt me too much. But I don't liked the short cut so after a time it growed again.
The continuation is there were several long hair and several short hair periods and I never liked the short haired times. Currently it is long and I want to let it grow to its maximum length.

My hair is the shortest it has been in years(shoulders), but I am glad I did it. I still have long hair, it just isn't as long as it was or could be. It has gotten to my waist before and I had a similar feeling and cut a few inches off of it.
It feels much healthier, and looks better.
