I've been trying to hold it off, but my Physical Education grade can't take it any longer. I just don't want to get in. The thought of that chlorine smell and chlorine effect on hair is just horrible to me. I ordered a swim cap from Speedo, but it isn't working for me. So I did some research and I am considering using all of the solutions:
1.Wet hair completely before going into the pool, (I guess I'll be carrying bottled water to the pool, or I could wet my hair in the school showers or something.) I heard wetting hair before going into chlorine will reduce the amount of chlorine that is absorbed by your hair.
2.Try to keep my hair away from the chlorinated water. (Sounds stupid, but hey, teacher isn't looking.)
3.And I guess, my best solution: Paul Mitchell SHAMPOO THREE, "Removes Chlorine and Impurities"
Man does this suck, anything else I should know? I start swimming on monday, and I hope I can find that shampoo.
That really sucks... But why isn't the hat working for you? Is it too small or something? Maybe there's something else you can do? I don't know how harmful chlorine is but if you're required to swim every Monday I doubt it's gonna be good for your hair. Can't you take other PE sports?
The hat sucks! I have to swim everyday, 10 more days.
You'll have to swim every day, that sucks but at lest after more than a week it will be over =}
Try this,
Put conditioner in your hair after you wet it. This way, it will not be such a mess when you get out of the pool.
Well, more details. How often are you swimming? Is it a co-ed class?
There's 10 more days of swimming left. I have managed to keep my hair safe this far. 10 more days, and I am free.
Hi Ein,
I'd use lots of pommade, or vaseline, or something greasy on your hair before swimming. I suppose that shampoo is o.k. - make sure you put in a good conditioner, preferably some leave-in conditioner, too.
If you feel you still have to do more in order to remove chlorine, try crushing some Vitamin C tablets in a cup of water (the vitamin C is water soluble, and the other ingredients of the vitamin C tablets don't hurt), and rinse your hair with that solution, or with some lemon juice, before you put in the conditioner.
All in all, if it is ten more days of swimming, I'm sure your hair will o.k. in the end, given the conscientious care you seem to be applying. Just cross-check with Ordoman's posts regarding sea water a bit below, some points have been discussed there, too.
Good luck, and I hope you can enjoy the swimming at least somewhat!
