Hi Folks,
I have been using propecia for last 8 months and I think it works for me. I moved to US couple of months back and looks like I may need to stay here for longer duration than my Propecia stocks can last. I dont think I will be able to get it here in US without a prescription. I am worried as to whether I may never get it before I return home and may need to loose my hair for not taking propecia. Is it possible to get this genuine drug without RX (prescription)?
I just read somewhere that Saw Palmetto works similar to Propecia ... is this available over the counter without RX?
Appreciate any help from you guys to save my hairs. I am already 6/7 months old in hair and dont want to go back to the old trim hairs. Please help (Shouting aloud !!!)
Srini.
I just purchased some saw palmetto in the local grocery store. An earlier post (below) by Alsalom in the "question for 50+ guys with long hair thread" mentions that he uses saw palmetto.--just take a look at his hair. It costs about $10 Cdn for 50 pills.
Thank you David. I saw it is available in Walgreens ... is a prescription required or its treated just like a suppliment?
Regards,
Srini.
Hi Srini. It's available without a prescription. I'm planning on taking it along with a multivitamin as my hair is not as thick as when I was younger (I''m 53) and I want to keep my hair and improve (hopefully) my growth rate.
All the best and future growth,
David
Hi David ... thank you very much ... I am 25 however I am very concerned about loosing hair. I ll buy a pack of it today and start using it.
Have a great weekend !!!
Sorry guys. Save your money.
There have been clinical trials and Sawpalmetto is utterly INEFFECTIVE in any hair growth trials. It can, however, be helpful for those of us with enlarged prostates.
When we live in a corrupt society which decieves the individual and manilulates her to take action against her self interest, it also justifices counter action. If the rules are stacked against you then there is no ethical requirement that you follow them.
Tell your physician that you fear prostate enlargement resulting in decreased urinary flow and ask for a Rx. of Finsateride 5 MG once a day.
Then break these tablets into 1/5, which results in propecia 1. mg per day. It does not matter that the fractions are exatly equal. Medications are metabolized on an individual basis and the unequal fragments will on average result in the Rx 1 mg. dose of propecia.
I tried some generics while traeling in India and China, and am not convinced that their generics are equal in quality with our home grown. But scientifically, N = 1, research cannot prove anything.

...but my reasoning is that meds have a potective seal around them. Once you break that, I think that you'd cause elevate the chances of the med dissolving (stomach acids etc.) before it can be properly digested and released into the body.
What do you think?
... that will rinse it into the duodenum quickly, and the problem shouldn't be too bad. If breaking tablets into 1/5 is too difficult, use a single old-fashioned shaving blade to cut them into 1/4 - 1.25 mg is o.k., too.
Good luck!

I've been using Saw Palmetto for a while, hopefully it's doing something good for the hair! I guess only time will tell. The bottle does only say "may help reduce hairloss". But it does reduce DHT, ONE of the major factors in enlarged prostates AND hairloss. Not to say it will or won't work.

The DHT management is supposed to be similar among all three of these products.
I have an enlarged prostate as many/all 50+ men eventually will, so a couple of years ago I started taking SP. I buy GNC brand from Drugstore.com - 100x510mg tablets for $10 - and take one a day in the morning. I buy two bottles at a time to amortize the shipping cost. European doctors widely recommend SP for prostate issues.
By pure coincidence I decided never to cut my hair again at roughly the same time (2004) as I started the SP. There are many variables including genetics, plus one example never constitutes scientific proof, but at my age - 58 - I certainly can't complain about the growth and quantity of my hair. Taking SP hasn't hurt anything and is inexpensive!
