Hi Guys, i have long hair down to my shoulders it looks a lot like Dave Gilmour's from Pink Floyd (earlyish days darkside of the moon era) and basically im pretty happy because it has grown out quite nicely (despite the fact its usually always greasy) wel anyway im only 17, and im starting to develop facial hair like thin sideburn hair and moustache and goate hair, but it is very thin, so i was wondering when abouts it starts to really pick up, because i want a beard (lmao) i think it would look cool. So any advice or knoledge you have on this would be well apreciated
cheers guys

It really depends on your ethnicity.
Russians (like me) tend to develope thicker facial hair, whereas Asians do not.
My one friend, who is simply caucasian, barely grows a chin beard, and he's in his mid 20s.
So you can wait and see? LOL
I, too, have a caucasian friend who has about two fingers' worth of potential chin hair but is pretty much naked all over the rest of his face, including his sideburns. (And he is 30!)

Well it depends on the person. I've had the ability to grow a full beard and especially thick goatee section since I was 14. Some of my 22 year old friends still cant grow any facial hair.
A man's ability to progress through all the facets of puberty doesn't fully stop until ~22. So potentially soon, potentially in a few years, potentially it might not really happen. Hoping for the "soon" for ya!

I tried growing a mustache right out of high school, and finally gave up. All 4 hairs went in different directions.
By the time I was 23 I had a full mustache. So don't be discouraged early on. Give it a little time.

Jeff's Beard Board has a 'teen beard' section that you might find helpful if you do not find what you need here. The link is enclosed below.
Like others have said, you never known when you will reach your full beard-potential. It could be 18; it could be 24+.

Hi there,
I think I grew my beard as it is from when I was late 16, because I got fed up with shaving, as I'm a bit of a razor rash victim and I'd been shaving since I was 13. All that I can say is that I kept shaving until (from my experience) the hair grew thicker and coloured, that was how I got rid of the silvery "bum fluff", although I didn't do it intentionally. But until that point, there isn't much you can do about it, you just have to let nature take its course. My beard progressing into a ginger thats SO ginger I may melt my face with it. Just give it time, like guys previously have said, it can be until youre 22-24 to get your beard to its final "evolution stage".
Good luck!
Neil
Hey, MoI,
As others have stated it is different for each guy. I know I wasnm't a beard-wearer (nor could I really be) until I was about 24. Even at 30, though, I am still finding that my beard is still evolving, taking new shape and growing more thickly than before. It is also, slowly, expropriating more and more property from what had been smooth, naked skin.
Best of luck.

Well anyone who is a Floyd fan is my kinda guy!!!Its nice to see the younger guys into their music since this band has been around like forever.Actually I saw Roger Waters at MSG here in NYC only last month and all I can say is he was outstanding as the show was 99% Floyd tunes with only two solo songs of his that he played.Gotta love the fact he played the entire Dark side album from start to finish after the intermission.Have you ever heard or seen Aussie Floyd perform?I have and they do an outstanding cover of PF.Anyway you should post some pics as I'm sure all here would love to see them.Take care and get them pics out!!!LOL. You may just have to be patient. I couldn't grow a beard for years due to work, but I could do a 'stache. Once I was trimming it, slipped with the razor, and ended up shaving it off just to keep it even. My sister-in-law never noticed till my (then) wife (now ex) said something.
Now, I'm 43, and I can go from clean-shaven to needing a trim in about 2 weeks. Growth like that makes it easy and fun to experiment. I recently tried; clean (my wife said I looked like my mother), soul patch (she couldn't stop laughing), Fu Manchu (she stopped laughing), full beard (I looked so much like my Late Dad, my sister cried), and back to the goatee (the Mrs. is happy again)
Have fun!!
That's a great facial hair adventure you've taken us on, Lon. Made me chuckle.
Thanks for sharing.
