Hi People,
How is everyone?
It's being a while so I thought I'd pop in with an update. Forgive the picture quality these were taken with my web cam.
My hair is mid-back length (as should be apparent in the photos) due to its length I avoid washing daily, normally only 2-3 times a week as it takes forever to dry. For anyone growing out. Conditioner is a must!!!
Goal at the moment is lower back.
Comments appreciated.
And my 10 week old kitten:
My cat looked just like that when she was a kitten, now she is prob. 3 years old, wow time flys lol, anyway you have outstanding hair. :) keep growing
Hope your cat doesn't scratch your head :))
Nope, but we both shed together... between me and the cat, we have literally carpeted the tiled floor with our comb-outs.
Sorted! Hey man, you are looking great, and your hair is really long! Looks very good. Long time since hearing from you. So glad you checked in. I spent July on your side of the Pond in Italy--with a research group (Latin teachers). Hot as hell. How about Portugal? I can only imagine that it was.
Robert
I dunno about Portugal mate, I live in the Canary Islands, some 1000 miles south-south-east.
Sorry about that. I have remembered wrong, obviously.
Robert
AWESOME
Nice to hear from you.
You disappeared for quite some time.
ToddB
Thanks Todd,
Yeah I know I've being away a while, I guess I kinda "outgrew" the hyperboard. Once I got past the awkward stage I hung around for a while posting replies to other people's questions and generally trying to help newcomers as more senior members had helped me. But sooner or late you've got to take a back seat and let others come through and take over your role. It's a natural progression.
I check back every few months to post some updates, but once you've being growing for 3 years and 9 (or is it 10) months, the general look of your hair doesn't change very much from month to month, so there is little point posting frequent updates.
First of all, your hair is looking really good and it has lengthened quite a bit since your last update.
But as to what you are saying here...yes the board is a place to encourage newbies and to post update or progress pictures but it is also a place where many people can gain the acceptance that they don't get with their jobs, family, friends, partner etc.
There are also off-topic conversations and interesting topics that involve long hair in some way.
Also, the board is not just for those starting out. I mean look at Nyghtfall. He has had long hair for years and also doesn't really care about what others think of his appearance, yet he posts around here because he probably likes the people and the spirit of the site.
There are many others with butt length and longer hair who stay around here just for the community of it.
In any case as your hair gets longer you very well may find the advice (such as Absalom gave you here) of others with very long hair useful.
Of course this board will always have new members coming in, many of them asking the same questions, but that doesn't mean that you have to be a 'slave' in providing the same advice ad nauseum to them.
Lots of insightful conversation/posting goes on here too. I won't name names but especially by some of our newer members (along with some of the golden older staples of course).
Of course, I'm not trying to convince you, place pressure or guilt upon you, I'm just stating to you my interpretation of the board. One that doesn't disagree with what you're saying, but includes it as part of a bigger picture.
Just my 2c.
(and in all honesty the way your hair has been progressing, you're very far from needing the advice of anyone!)
Great hair, Sorted (and great kitten, too)! You've really come a long way. Keep it growin' and flowin' and don't be such a stranger.
TLH
Excellent, Mr. Sorted! I thought the Canaries must have been consumed by the Atlantic waves Atlantis-style and I just didn't hear about it because it has been so very long since you made a post here!
Well, great pictures of course, but a question, is it just the lighting in the pictures or is your hair darker now? I always did admire the medium-blond color you sported.
Me, why excellent in a kinda-sorta way! No more whiny boo-hoo stories can come from me any more about "My a-hole boss made me cut my hair" since I no longer have a boss for the time being! Unfettered hair growth!
Check back more often and don't be such a stranger!
Hi Sorted,
Great to hear from you and your hair is AWESOME!
The ends look so healthy. I'm betting you kept up your routine of periodic trims. You don't look to be anywhere near terminal length so you should easily reach your goal.
Do you think you'd ever restore your site that dealt with the growing out process? Perhaps to update it every 3-6 months at this point?
Jason
Thanks mate, yeah trims every 3-4 months.
I doubt it, wouldn't really be relevant to me besides I have long periods with no photos.
You look so beautiful, and your cat looks beautiful too... I wish I could have cats.
This is exactly how I want my hair to look. It looks amazing, dude.
Thanks Devin. It's not the easiest look to achieve if you have the wrong hair-type. Like I do. If you have straight hair, then its probably much easier.
My tips (if this really is how you want your hair to look):
- Regular very small trims
- Have the front cut just below chin length, let the back get as long as you like, graduate the sides so they get longer front to back. (This gives the cascading look you can see best in front of my left shoulder).
- Conditioner (rinse out & leave-in)
- If you're hair is naturally wavy or curly, then you've got to use straightners otherwise using a hair dryer should be enough.
I should start a salon ;-)
just below chin length? Or are you now letting that grow much longer?
Just below chin length... you can probably just make it out in the photos. If you have straight hair its a good idea to have some variation in length between front & back, though it doesn't have to be a huge difference. If you have straight hair and you have it cut all the same length then it can look a bit like hanging curtains, particularly as you hair gets to the sort of length mine is.
Wella have a good tutorial video for stylists to explain this:
http://www.wella-training-online.com/tronl_en_05/haircut_intro03/basic_haircut/line103/line2c1.jsp
This picture probably shows the differnce between the lenth at the front and back better. Again apologies for the grainy images and sullen look. I was focussing on my mouse pointer not the cam as I took this one.
That does look cool. My concerns would be how securely the front hair reaches a low ponytail tie and even more importantly in my case, how it would affect braids. I rely on braids a lot for most outdoor activities.
If you wear your hair in a braid or a loose ponytail, then my advice is that you should never cut your hair shorter than 2 inches below the chin.
My last trim I had my bangs cut to about 1/2 inch below my chin. I deliberately had my bangs cut shorter last time to accentuate the effect. That was 6 weeks ago and my ponytail is just about "safe" again. I wore a braid the other day and I didn't lose my bangs, but its going to be another month before my hair is back to being "safe" in that style during breezy conditions.
Provided (unlike me) you obey the 2 inch rule then you won't have a problem.
You must be the envy of all your friends, and rightfully so.
Very, very impressive.
My hair is naturally straight :D. I think that my hair will be similar to yours once it grows out past shoulder length.
Hey Sorted -
Your hair looks fabulous beyond words. It is "Killer to die for hair" no question.
Nice hearing from you and seeing long hair as spectacular as you have attained.
Justin
Cheers Justin!
Wow! Your hair is absolutely spectacular! I could only hope to have hair that healthy, shiny, and (of course) long someday. You're very much blessed to have such a stunning mane. =)
Look forward to future updates!
-James
.
YOU THE MAN !!! Its terrific.
and a great success. You have really good length and it is in great condition too. As your hair gets even longer you may find that washing every 5 days is sufficient. When my hair was shoulder length I washed it every 2 or 3 days. When it was at lower back length (about 1/2 its current length) I washed it about once every 5 days. I now wash it every 8 to 10 days.
Keep it growing and flowing.
Absalom
Coming from you Absalom, that is high praise indeed.
I dunno if I'll be that lucky, after 4-5 days my hair starts looking really greasy & in summer, I can barely go 3 days without washing due to the heat. But here's hoping.
Hey Sorted!
Great pics, --- and the hair looks awesome (although a tad bit darker than I remember from before...)!!
Great to see you post here again, --- and come back more often!!
- Ken
Great looking hair, I can only hope mine looks as good when it gets longer.
Bruce
I kind of bobbled that reply!
WOW ti looks great and the ends look super as well. Very nicely done there!! hope all is good and great to hear from you, take care
Sorted
That looks awesome I remember your hair was at shoulder length last time you posted I always wondered if you was still growing it or not as its been quite awhile since i lasted heared from you ... How many Trims have you had to get to where you are now ???
Axel
Thanks!
How many trims? Er I think I've lost count. Over the past 3 years and 9-10 months I think I've had my hair cut about 16 times. So that's an average of once every 3 months. The trims were really designed to gradually get rid of the natural layers without any severe cuts, so it was sort of 1/2 inch to an inch at a time. For the past year though its been just about keeping the ends neat.
Totally awesome mane, really looking forward to your future updates when it reaches your waist. Keep it growing! David
My first thought: "Whoa!" It looks great! Made me a little misty, cuz that's what mine looked like before I cut it to make my family happy. (except mine was mulletized in front, which I won't do this time.) I only hope that mine looks half as good when it grows out.
Congrats! And I'm looking forward to your future posts!

Great growth, and great to see you back!
People come, and people go, but many also remain, and the board is now owned and run by the moderation crew, with the aims of assuring its survival over time and its being even more in tune with what the users want of it (since it's now run by a committee of users), but our main reasons for being here - our interest in hair and in supporting others who share that interest - are the same so it's much the same. Yet, new blood flowing through both the management and user groups has made it more vibrant than ever, and we're having lots of fun here.
So hey, don't be a stranger!
Bill
hey man your hair looks great, i had wondered what happened to you. good to see you again.
ossum hair mate!
ossum hair mate!
Hey Sorted
That's really *great* hair you know. Looks like you might have had it layered? Looking good though and like everyone else's is leaving me behind! (I've had long hair for six years but it stopped getting any longer three years ago, I think it's about a third of the way down my back).
Well nice to see you back anyway - thanks for the update.
RM
Hi Sorted, I HAVE to agree with everyone, your hair is GORGEOUS!!! Hope you get some better pics soon.
Hi David,
your hair looks phantastic! Great you got a lot of additional length since your last update... The "bangs" effect looks cool, too!
All the best, and keep it growing forever!
By the way, how is Chris Surferdude doing?
All the best, and greetings to beautiful Tenerife!
Hans-Uwe
Dude, your hair is awesome! I love the colour. Your hair and look reminds me of a guy from a thrash metal band I have listened to over the years... but I forget which guy and which band : /
I'll get back to you on that one!
Neil
Looking great Sorted!!!!
I like the longer length. Lower back length will look great.
- Oren
Sorted,
Your hair looks awesome. Do you have a permanent goatee now? How about some close-ups? I am so envious.
Lnghrwntr
Great hair. Congratulations on your progress.
Your hair is not only very long but Bold! very full
and quality conditioning really shows, yes extremely
long hair takes twice as long to shampoo..blow dry..
trim..ect. But its worth if you love growing hair to
the maximum lenghth. Looks Great.
