Hi all, I'm about to go to bed, so I'll post pictures tomorrow, but I wanted to ask you something anyway.
I've been growing my hair out for over a year and a half now. It has grown into 3 seperate layers: front, which is just below my chin, middle, which goes down halfway down my neck, and the back, which goes from the shoulders on. If you're looking at me from the front, it's not too noticable. But from the side you can really see that it's just not good.
When my brother decided to grow his hair out (he claims he just doesn't like hair cuts. Ha! His is almost as long as mine now :), my mom evened his hair out first, and it looks great. I really envy him. So she said I should even mine out, too. I guess my question is, should I do it? Or when I am done growing it out (plan to grow for another year or two), the difference won't be that noticable?
Pics will come tomorrow, but just have this image in your head:
Front is down to my chin, back is below my shoulders. Looks really off. =/
So here are the pics. I also want to show the difference between my hair not being washed for 3 days and the next day after it was washed. My hair gets REALLY greasy, so I don't even use conditioner. Just wash every 3 days.

And another one from the side, because this one shows what I mean kind of well:

I didn't make these show up as images, because they are HUGE. Sorry. :(
But my question is, see how big the the difference is between where my back and front end? It looks weird. Should I trim the back to be closer to the front? Not by a lot, of course. Just a few cm to get it more in line. Hopefully that will also make my hair stop flipping. My mom evened out my brother's hair before he grew it out, and his doesn't flip at ALL. It's amazing. My mom would also do my hair, so I don't have to worry about a salon barber or something getting carried away.
I think your hair looks great the way it is, let it all grow longer, then even it out. Just my opinion. :)
And another one from the side, because this one shows what I mean kind of well:
That's what I was thinking, but if I could make it look good *now* and then it would look good later, it would be a lot better than having to wait for another year or so. :p
I see what you mean, but I think it does look good now but I was always against any hair cuts during the growing stage unless it is to cut off damaged hair. When you get any hair cut, it will just take that much longer to obtain your goal.
My hair is about the same length as your, and lots of people say that I should get a trim, but I don't want to sacrifice any lenght.
Holy crap! I can't believe how similar we look.
You have to make a distinction between what is "length", though. I consider my front length to be the true length. As in, my hair won't be where I want it until my front is there, too. So even if I did trim it, it would still be longer than my front, and wouldn't really change how long it would take to get to my goal of having my front halfway between my collar bone and nipples, and my back whereever. But if the back is a lot longer at that point, then it will still look off. =S
Yea, our hair is very simular.. :)
too.
That is one way of looking at it, when I put my hair in a tail (the sides keep falling out though) it does look uneven from the back.

Maybe a trim would work good off the back.

Hahahaha that pic was awesome.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I can almost have a good pony tail, but the front hairs keep falling out. I usually make a half-tail with the top hair, and then join it with a second one.
I think I'll just get a slight trim from the back. I wear a backpack most of the time when I'm out anyway, so people won't know the difference! :D
LOL, which one????? Just kidding... :)
So I got it trimmed a bit. It's weird, she only took of barely an inch and that's only from select strands that were the longest, but my hair is still aligning a lot differently than before. I like it, actually. I won't trim anymore though. At least not for a long time.
