Help guys - how long does it take to get used to awkward? I'm really losing it at the moment! Does it get better? JUst feels like theres a long way to go stage where its long enough....
Wear caps or bandanas, some guys use gells. It can be a pain in the @ss but it is worth it.
Just power thru it. Everyone has a different rate of hair growth.
I have stuffed it all under a hat for the last couple of months because my bangs are not quiet long enough to tuck behind the ears. I have started wearing a half tail high on my haed in public and I love it. I cant wait until I have a full length "low" pony tail.
About a year.
I just watered my hair down, brushed it straight back, and drowned it in hairspray until it was long enough to lie down under its own weight. I wound up nicknamed "Data" - after the character on Star Trek: The Next Generation - by my friends, but it worked.
When growing out your hair, as Tom Petty says, you've got to have, "Rhino Skin!" I agree it takes at least a year, maybe longer if your hair is thick and or wavy, longer if really curly. Be tough, hang in there and RHINO through it my man!
Hi there,
It depends what you hair is like, my hair was curly and as unmanagable as hair can get - one day I'll post an old pic which'll provide you all with some massive entertainment. If yours is like mine, you do have to be patient and when your hair can be tied back, do so, if you like. If your hair is slightly more manageable, wavy or straight, theres the option of those tiny hair bands, bandanas or just slicking it back with wet hands with a tiny bit of gel mixed in. There is a long way to go.... but it DEFINATLEY gets better : )
Hang in there
Neil
it sucks no doubt about it and that's true for just about everyone except maybe if your hair is naturally real straight. you will get some relief eventually when it gets long enough to stick behind your ears. around 6 to 9 months after you started growing depending on how long it was when you started.

The infamous 'Awkward Phase®' is when your hair is at its worst. That
can mean your head looks like a dandelion, a dust kitten or a frizzball.
People look at you in astonishment, wondering WHY anyone would allow themselves
to look that way.
It's a period of time when you have MANY DOUBTS, you wake up in the middle of the night and
say things like: "What the world am I doing???"
And WHY would anyone want to go through a 'phase' that makes you look
just awful...and possibly ruining your chances to have a meaningful relationship with anyone?
But some guys will stay the course no matter what because they are real Longhairs and
they know in their hearts that in the end they will look the way they WANT to look.
It takes COURAGE to go through the Awkward Phase® BUT do NOT do it
unless your heart is in it. If you can't stand it and if it is
making your Life unbearable to the point that you are becoming seriously depressed--then perhaps you should reconsider
your goals.
Long hair is for Longhairs...and it's NOT for everyone--that's for sure.
Be true to yourself ALWAYS.
And Good Luck!
I couldn't have said it better myself. Good post.
I tried to grow my hair out 7 years ago and couldn't make it to the end. I was 8 months into it, started from an inch. My wife at the time kept telling me to cut it. She would say, why would you want long hair, she was just pissed that my hair is thicker and fuller than hers. I'm going for it again, 7 months into it now. I hear it from everyone, work, friends and family. GET IT CUT!!. I have always wanted to grow my hair long, not to long, past the chin, all one length. B.e.a. utiful. I see myself a year from now with long hair. No matter what anyone says or thinks, do what you want to do. It's your life! remember that, This site is here for support and helpful tips. If you have doubts or having a tough day or week or month, just come to this site. It helps. we are like the Band of Brothers of long hair.....
